Birmingham: Conquest Racing preview

Mario Romancini, ...

Mario Romancini, #34 Conquest Racing

Mario Romancini will make his third start in the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend. Currently he is the highest ranked rookie in the IZOD IndyCar Series, sitting 16th in the overall standing.

"I'm really looking forward to this next event after finishing my first IZOD IndyCar Series race in St. Pete and having previously tested in Barber. We tested well there, so I think we will have a good base set up to start the weekend. I am also looking forward to working with my new teammate for the first time. Being able to work together will help both teams to improve quickly throughout the weekend."

Previous Race Finish: Romancini had a strong run and held off Hideki Mutoh to finish 13th, five places ahead of his qualifying position, during the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Barber Motorsport Test: During the Series open test, Romancini posted the tenth quickest time with a lap of 1:10.5487 and a best speed of 117.621.

Bertrand Baguette, #36 RACB National Team.

Bertrand Baguette, the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series Champion, makes his IZOD IndyCar Series debut this weekend in Barber. The 24 year-old rookie was able to visit the permanent road course for a day of testing in the new car on his way back to Indianapolis from the race in St. Petersburg. Since returning, Baguette and his team have been working feverishly to ensure they are well prepared this weekend.

"I am very excited for my first race. I want to thank Eric and the guys for working so hard these past days and putting together the car so quickly. I am very happy with how the car looks and I cannot wait to race this weekend. I look forward to starting the season at Barber since it is the only track I know from the bit of testing I was able to do last week."

New key personnel.

Conquest Racing welcomed two key personnel to the team this past week. Taking up the role of Team Manager is John Brunner, formerly with Forsythe Racing. Brunner was with that organization for more than a decade, overseeing the cars driven by the likes of Rodolfo Lavin, Paul Tracy, Patrick Carpentier, and Alex Tagliani.

Also joining the team this season is veteran Track Engineer Todd Malloy. Malloy recently engineered the cars of Paul Tracy, Justin Wilson, Graham Rahal, Robert Doornbos, and Oriol Servia respectively at Forsythe, Rusport and Newman/Haas/Lanigan. This season he will be engineering the car #36 of Bertrand Baguette.
