CFH Racing anxious to get ahold of aero kits

Best kept secret of the 2015 racing season so far are the looks of the aero kits. CFH Racing's Ed Carpenter spoke with Motorsport.com about the new kits, testing, and the cancellation of Brazil.

Ed Carpenter is ready for 2015. 

But 2015 is not quite ready for Ed Carpenter. It’s not ready for any competitor or team at the moment, and one pivotal piece of the puzzle has to be rolled out before the season can get under way.

This season will mark the first time the DW12 IndyCar chassis utilizes manufacturer designed aero kits for the car, and teams have yet to take delivery. They also have to wait to get on track with them until mid-March.

With the sudden cancellation of the season opener in Brazil, which, because of the production times for the new aero parts would have seen teams bring their cars in 2014 spec to Brazil, race, then bring them home to get them ready for a completely different configuration, Carpenter says it gives them more time to focus on the 2015 car.

“If anything it helps a little bit. We won’t be dealing with converting cars from last year’s spec,” Carpenter said. “It should take some pressure off. We won’t be getting on track for aero kit testing until March 13.”

While a slight advantage for the teams from a technical standpoint, Carpenter added that he hates losing any racing date.

“The thing that is disappointing is that we don’t get to open the season for our fans and they will have to wait almost another month for us to get going.”

Well kept secret

Both Ed Carpenter and Bryan Herta have not gotten to see renderings of the final production models of the aero kits of as yet, but both admit they are excited to see what is in store for 2015.

“There isn’t much to share at this point. We are excited to take delivery of the kits, get our hands on them and see what we have to work with,” Carpenter said. 

Herta on the other hand has seen some early drawings, and the handful of spy photos from COTA in October that the rest of the world has seen.

“We are all very curious and looking forward to seeing cars turn up at Barber at Spring training to see what we all have got,” Herta said.
