Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti were wed in the Highlands of Scotland on Wednesday at the exclusive Skibo Castle in Dornoch District near Inverness.

Franchitti, a driver for Team Kool Green in the FedEx Championship Auto Racing Teams series was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and now lists his home as Bathgate, Scotland. Judd who has starred in the movies "Heat" and "Double Jeopardy" is from the United States. Judd was born in Los Angeles, California. They were introduced in 1999 by the late Greg Moore, Dario's best friend.

The two kept their engagement a secret for quite some time. The story broke in the entertainment media when Franchitti had a serious accident at Homestead during Spring Training in 2000.

Both Franchitti and Judd have guarded their privacy during their time together and they wanted a private, quiet, elegant wedding among their families and close friends.

They filed the official papers in the Bonar Bridge registrar's office and had planned to hold the ceremony nearby at Croick Church in Dornoch District.

Due to a leak to the local press their private wedding could turn into a 'media circus' which they wanted to avoid. They made the decision to change the location. With the help of the registrar's office, the couple moved the wedding to a more secure and private place -- the Skibo Castle owned by Peter de Savary.

Between their schedules, Judd and Franchitti have managed to be very supportive of one another's chosen career. Franchitti has attending social functions including the Oscar's with Judd and she has played an active role in the world of racing.

Judd has not only supported Franchitti in the pit area, she has driven in the Celebrity Challenge events at the tracks and has attended a driver's school for the events. In Detroit, she was seen wearing a helmet exactly like Franchitti's. In Mid-Ohio, she worked his pit board relaying the information to him when he came by pit lane.

The couple were married by "Father Phil" de Rea of the CART Ministries program. Father Phil arrived in Scotland early Tuesday. Both Franchitti and Judd are involved in the CART Ministries program.

"I am looking forward to the wedding. They are a good couple and I am confident it will be a good marriage," said de Rea upon his arrival.

The maid of honor was the bride's sister, country singer Wynonna Judd, and the best man was the groom's brother, Marino Franchitti, according to Judd's publicist, Annett Wolf.

Judd wore a satin empire waist dress with a full-length beaded lace coat while her new husband wore a kilt.

Additional details of the ceremony or guests are sketchy as the Castle lived up to its reputation for protecting its guests.

The newlyweds promised to release some photos of the wedding. Motorsport.com will have them as soon as they are available.

Motorsport.com sends best wishes and a happy life to Ashley and Dario.
