Drive-Thru Crew News Honda Indy 300 Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia October 15-17, 1999

Circuit: 2.795-mile temporary street course Race: 65 laps/181.675 miles Broadcast: Sunday, October 17 - ESPN Live 12:00 am - 2:00 am EST Sunday, October 17 - ESPN2 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (Tape Delay)

Saturday Qualifying

Tony Kanaan, #44 McDonald's Honda-Reynard - Qualified 8th:

"We made an improvement in the car today and the track was better as well. We saved one set of tires which is good for the race. On the second set, I didn't take the most out of the car. This track is so long that it is so easy to make one mistake and screw up the whole lap. Every single lap that was a good one, I made a mistake in a different place. At the end, when I got my fastest lap, my tires were already gone at that point.

"Today there was nothing wrong with the car. It was me. I had to try to be perfect those two laps and that's why I'm so upset about it. We had a car to be top five today. I made a mistake and that's hard for me to accept. I guess that's part of the learning curve. You can always learn and today is a good example."

Top-10 Qualifiers:

 1. Dario Franchitti 91.703 = 109.724 mph 2. Bryan Herta 92.595 = 108.667 mph 3. Scott Pruett 92.616 = 108.642 mph 4. Paul Tracy 92.700 = 108.544 mph 5. Michael Andretti 92.899 = 108.311 mph 6. Juan Montoya 93.018 = 108.173 mph 7. Adrian Fernandez 93.072 = 108.110 mph 8. Tony Kanaan 93.233 = 107.923 mph 9. Mauricio Gugelmin 93.271 = 107.879 mph 10. Cristiano da Matta 93.399 = 107.731 mph
