Fontana, CA (October 30, 1999) - World record holder Mauricio Gugelmin will continue to pilot the #17 PacWest entry in the 2000 FedEx Championship Series season, Team Owner Bruce R. McCaw officially announced today.

The popular Brazilian will return for his sixth season with the PacWest team, continuing a productive partnership that has garnered one victory (Vancouver 1997), three pole positions, thirty-five top-ten finishes, and the world closed course speed record of 240.942 mph set at California Speedway in 1997.

"I have total confidence in the PacWest organization under Bruce and Jolene McCaw's leadership," commented Gugelmin. "I feel very much at home with this team, and I'm looking forward to a very successful future with them. We share a winning history, and I'm confident that we're in a position to earn even more victories in the new millennium."

McCaw praised Gugelmin for his contributions to the PacWest team, and echoed his driver's optimism regarding the 2000 season.

"Since 1995, Mauricio has been a cornerstone of the PacWest organization, and we are privileged to team with a man who is not only a talented driver but also a truly remarkable individual," stated McCaw. "Mo is an outstanding ambassador for PacWest, our sponsors, and the sport of motor racing, and I'm very pleased. to continue our relationship with him."

Gugelmin's PacWest career began with a second-place finish at the 1995 Grand Prix of Miami. This weekend's FedEx Championship Series season finale marks Gugelmin's eighty-ninth PacWest start and his 108th consecutive CART start, the longest streak among active drivers.
