Zanardi Sets The Pace In Sunday Warm-Up
Lexinton, OH (August 6, 1998) - FedEx Championship Series points leader Alex Zanardi served notice during Sunday morning's Miller Lite 200 warm-up session that just because he isn't in the top 10 on the grid doesn't mean he won't be a force to be reckoned with during today's 83-lap race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Zanardi, who has won half of the 12 Champ Car races conducted this season, was quickest in the morning practice session with a 1:07.183, 120.995 lap in the Target Reynard Honda. The Italian struggled through qualifying throughout the weekend and starts 13th in today's 2 p.m., Eastern Time, race.
Second-fastest in morning warm-up was American Scott Pruett, who clocked in at 1:07.280, 120.820 mph in the Visteon Reynard Ford while third-best was Bryan Herta, who ran a 1:07.505, 120.418 mph lap in the Shell Reynard Ford.
The Team KOOL Green duo of Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti rounded out the top five. Tracy recorded a 1:07.576, 120.291 mph lap while Franchitti, who is the polesitter after registering a track record 1:05.679, 123.766 mph lap, came in at 1:07.615, 120.222 mph.
The remainder of the top 10 was comprised of Greg Moore, Al Unser Jr, Jimmy Vasser, JJ Lehto and Andre Ribeiro.
