CHAMPCAR/CART: PKV Racing taps Goeters for Monterrey race

PKV RACING TAPS JORGE GOETERS TO DRIVE IN TECATE/TELMEX MONTERREY GRAND PRIX

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - - MAY 16, 2005 - - PKV Racing has signed Mexican star Jorge Goeters to drive in this weekend's Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix presented by Roshfrans, May 20-22 on the Fundidora Park circuit in Monterrey, Mexico.

Goeters will campaign the #52 PKV Racing/Team Mexico Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone entry, which will be managed by veteran Team Manager and former PKV Racing General Manager Russell Cameron. Cristiano da Matta, who pilots the #21 Bell Micro/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone machine and Jimmy Vasser, who will be behind the wheel of the #12 Gulfstream/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone entry will also contest the race under the guidance of PKV Racing General Manager Jim McGee.

"We are very pleased that Jorge was available to drive the #52 PKV Racing/Team Mexico car in the Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix," said PKV Racing co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven. "Jorge has a tremendous amount of experience in open wheel cars and has shown throughout his career that he is very competitive. We are excited about having a driver of Jorge's caliber in one of our cars and especially pleased that Champ Car fans in Mexico will have another driver to cheer for at this weekend's race in Monterrey," Kalkhoven concluded.

Goeters received international attention when he captured the pole and led 24 laps before succumbing to engine problems at the NASCAR Busch Race earlier this year in Mexico City. Currently, Goeters is competing in the Desafio Corona Stock Car Challenge where he leads the championship standings having finished in the top-three in all four events with two wins, most recently this weekend at Queretaro, Mexico (other victory came in second event of the season at Guadalajara). He finished second in the season opener in Mexico City and third in the third race at Zacatecas.

Goeters, 35, who resides in Mexico City with his wife Vanessa and daughter Vanessa, began his career racing Motocross in 1978. He was the Motocross/Enduro National Champion from 1989-1991. Goeters began racing cars in 1993 starting in the Mexican Sport Prototype Championship where he competed until 1996 winning the championship that year. In 1997, he moved to the Mustang Cup and won the championship with six wins in ten races capturing four poles. He also competed in Formula 3000 in 1996 placing third in the championship and 1997 placing fourth.

The 1998 season saw Goeters head to the United States where he ran in the Indy Lights Championship Series. Competing against PKV Racing teammate Cristiano da Matta, Dale Coyne Racing driver Oriol Servia and fellow Mexican Mario Dominguez, who now competes for Forsythe Racing, Goeters scored five top-10 finishes in 12 starts with a season high fifth place performance at Gateway International Raceway, where he also captured the pole.

Returning to Mexico he competed in Formula 3 finishing second in 2000 and taking the championship in 2001. He ran in the Mastercard Truck Series in 2002 taking the title and the Mustang Cup in 2003 placing second before moving to the Corona Stock Cars in 2004 placing second in his first season.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to drive the PKV Racing/Team Mexico car in the Tecate/Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix," Goeters said. "This is a tremendous opportunity for me and one I have dreamed about for a long time. It will take me a little time to get used to the car, but I am confident that with the help of Russell Cameron and all the guys at PKV Racing I can get up to speed quickly," he noted. "I am really looking forward to competing against some of the same drivers I raced against in Indy Lights and giving the race fans here in Mexico another driver to cheer for," Goeters concluded.
