Following medical evaluation, Ryan Hunter-Reay has been transported to a local hospital after a 200mph-plus crash during qualifying at Pocono Raceway.

The #28 Andretti Autosport-Honda driver was just reaching the end of his warm-up lap at the tri-oval when the car got unsettled down at the bottom of the track at Turn 3, wriggled and snapped out of control.

The car spun and struck the outside wall with its full left side. Team owner Michael Andretti radioed to Hunter-Reay asking if he was OK, and received the reply, “It’s my hip.”

Hunter-Reay, who had been fastest in morning practice, extracted himself from the cockpit with assistance, but needed the support of two members of the Holmatro Safety Crew as he limped to the ambulance.

An official IndyCar press release said he was subsequently evaluated by IndyCar medical director Dr. Geoffrey Billows and was transported by ground to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest for further evaluation.
