Infuriated Carpenter confronts Karam after close racing

Tempers flared at the conclusion of the Iowa Corn 300 as Ed Carpenter and Sage Karam battled fiercely for position inside the top five. 

Karam squeezed Carpenter multiple times, leading the veteran to angrily gesture towards the Chip Ganassi Racing rookie while they raced side-by-side. Karam completed the pass by chopping across the front of the CFH Racing co-owner, forcing him to check up.

Carpenter bolted to Karam's car after the race, who ended up on the podium for the first time in his career. Carpenter briefly exchanged words with Graham Rahal as well, who agreed that Karam was overly aggressive.

During the muffled, expletive-filled exchange, Carpenter told his fellow American that he needs to 'grow up' and warned that he will end up killing someone if he continues to drive like that.

Talking with TV, "He has no respect for anyone out there, he has no clue.

“If it wasn’t for guys with experience driving with their heads on, he would be hurting himself and other people. I think it’s ridiculous.”

Karam maintained his innocence, believing he didn't cross the line. "It’s IndyCar racing. This ain’t go-karts or anything anymore. We’re racing each other hard and we’re professionals and we know each other’s limits. Tough luck for him ... I don’t know.”

Carpenter went and spoke with IndyCar President of Operations/Competition Derrick Walker about the situation immediately after the race.
