Y'all come back now

Tickets purchased for today's Freedom 100 Infiniti Pro Series race will be honored Sunday.

Shuffling off to Charlotte

Robby Gordon was hoping to get some track time in his Andretti Green Racing entry today but rain forced an early end to practice. Gordon was the first driver on track this morning but only recorded four laps. Gordon left the Speedway to travel to Charlotte to compete in the "Winston" at the Lowes Motor Speedway. Gordon is expected back in Indianapolis tomorrow afternoon to continue practice for the 500.

When in Detroit

Robbie Buhl will be featured in a new exhibit focusing on local sports heroes at the Detroit Historical Museum. The exhibit, titled "Guts, Glory and Beyond," opened today. Buhl's racing suit, his IndyCar Series race car and other racing memorabilia will be on display.

Collecting points

Arie Luyendyk Jr, is expected to make repairs to his No. 5 Infiniti Pro Series car and return to competition several laps down when the Freedom 100 resumes tomorrow morning. Luyendyk is currently fifth in the championship battle.

Business of motorsports

After Sunday's final qualifying session, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be closed to on track action until Carb Day on Thursday. Carb Day activities include a final two-hour practice session before the race. On May 20 and 21 the Speedway will host the second annual Open Wheel Racing Summit, presented by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal. Engineering award

On Friday morning the Louis Schwitzer Award was presented to Gian Paolo Dallara for the Dallara IR3 chassis. A radical departure from the previous push rod design, the new chassis features pull rod front suspension to improve aerodynamics, reduce weight and lower the center of gravity.

Fast Women

The Lyn St. James Foundation will host "Women in the Winner's Circle" event May 19 at 11:00 am. The celebration, featuring an unprecedented gathering of women race car drivers, will be held at the Columbia Club in downtown Indianapolis. Janet Guthrie, Danica Patrick and Shawna Robinson are scheduled to attend. The event is sold out.

Reliability

At the close of business on Thursday, May 15, teams had recorded 12,451 laps around the 2.5-mile speedway with only one engine failure.
