RAY NAMED TO TOP ALL-AMERICA AUTO RACING TEAM

INDIANAPOLIS, Friday, Dec. 10, 1999 - 1999 Indy Racing League champion Greg Ray was named to the first team of the 1999 All-America Auto Racing Team in the Open Wheel category, while 1999 Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack was selected to the Open Wheel second team. Ray, from Plano, Texas, joined CART champion Juan Pablo Montoya on the Open Wheel first team, selected annually by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association. Members of the first and second teams, and honorable-mention selections, will be honored Jan. 15 at the AARWBA banquet in Long Beach, Calif. The Jerry Titus Award given annually to the driver of the year - the team member receiving the highest vote total - will be announced at the banquet. Ray was named to the first team for the first time in his Indy Racing career. He won a season- and career-best three races in the Team Menard entry in 1999 and also led the league with four poles. He won the championship, 293-256, over runner-up Brack. Ray returns to Team Menard for a second season in 2000. Brack, from Karlstad, Sweden, won the Indianapolis 500 in a dramatic finish in the A.J. Foyt Racing entry. It was the first Indy victory and only win of the Indy Racing season for Brack. It was the fifth Indy victory for Foyt, as his first four came as a driver. Brack was joined on the second team by CART runner-up Dario Franchitti. Another notable member of the first team is 1996-97 Indy Racing League champion Tony Stewart, named to the Stock Car first team with 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett. Stewart was the runaway winner of the NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Award after winning three races. He remains a part owner of the Tri Star Motorsports entry driven by Jeret Schroeder in the Indy Racing League. Former Indy Racing League competitor Jason Leffler was an honorable-mention selection in the Short Track category for winning a third consecutive MCI WorldCom USAC National Midget Car championship.
