IRL: Indy500: Live qualifying update day two

Day two of qualifying is now over. 32 cars have qualified for the Indianapolis 500. Five drivers, Junqueira, Minassian, Schroeder, Hamilton, and Carlson qualified today, with three others, Andretti, Cheever, and Caulkins requalifying. Next Sunday ...

Day two of qualifying is now over. 32 cars have qualified for the Indianapolis 500. Five drivers, Junqueira, Minassian, Schroeder, Hamilton, and Carlson qualified today, with three others, Andretti, Cheever, and Caulkins requalifying.

Next Sunday will be the final time to qualify for the one open spot in the field.

Eddie Cheever is now solidly in the field with at 222.152 mph qualifying run. This is much improved over yesterday's 220.513.

------------ Tyce Carlson qualifies at 220.480. Edddie Cheever has with drawn his qualified car, and is attempting to qualify another car.

Michael Andretti picks up significant speed on his second qualifying. His four lap average is: 233.441. With this run, Michael can rest easy, he will be in the field on race day.

Michael Andretti is heading out for a qualifying attempt, his previous car has been withdrawn. Michael leaves within the hour for the CART race in Japan. He is attempting to improve on is previous speed

Jimmy Kite's engine quit as he was coming to the line to begin a qualifying attempt.

Eliseo Salazar lost an engine during the last lap of his qualifying run.

Buzz Cauklins has qualified with a speed of 222.246 mph. Earlier today, he withdrew his car which had set the slowest speed on Saturday.

Four drivers have qualified thus far on day two. Bruno Junqueira is fastest of the second day qualifiers at 224.208 mph. He is followed by teammate Nicolas Minassian. Both are solidly in the field giving Chip Ganassi four cars in this edition of the 500 mile race.

Jeret Schroeder and Davey Hamilton also have qualifed. Three positions remain open before the bumping process begins.

Activity is picking up with one hour and twenty minutes until the final gun sounds today.
