FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Sept. 24, 2001) - Greg Ray is back. After missing the past two Indy Racing Northern Light Series races, the Plano native will be in the cockpit of a race car for the Chevy 500 on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Texas Motor Speedway. And, he will be driving for Texas racing legend A.J. Foyt.

"I was certainly planning on being in a car for this race," Ray said. "Not only do I love this speedway, but I have local sponsors here, and I felt, regardless of the situation, that I be in a race car for this race. I had some things lined up, but the deal with A.J. came together very late. I have been a fan of his since I can remember, and he has always been a mentor to me."

Ray will command the #11 Dallara/Infiniti car for Foyt for the Chevy 500. The team also has entered the #14 Dallara/Oldsmobile driven by Eliseo Salazar.

"A.J. and I are two completely different people, but we get along extremely well," Ray said. "I have a few laps around Texas Motor Speedway, and he certainly knows how to get a car around the speedway. I really do expect us to have a very good weekend."

Ray had spent most of this season and the past few years driving for John Menard. Despite a layoff since the Aug. 12 race at Kentucky, he feels it will be a quick learning curve once in the car for Foyt on Oct. 6 in the Chevy 500.

"Yeah, it would have been great if I had been testing and racing every week," Ray said. "Maybe, I would be sharper in those instances. But, honestly, with the way I already know the A.J. Foyt crew, and the way I know A.J., and how intimately I know those race cars and Texas Motor Speedway, it is going to take me about a half lap to get up to speed."

Green flag for the Chevy 500 is at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 6. Race tickets for all RPM Week-Texas events at Texas Motor Speedway are available by contacting the speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com, or at all participating Ticketmaster outlets.
