Justin Wilson ready for Iowa oval

Newton, Iowa – After a fast but frustrating outing last weekend on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle, Justin Wilson will be back in Verizon IndyCar Series action this Saturday night as he is set to pilot the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda/Dallara in the Iowa Corn 250. 

The 300-lap race traditionally sees some dynamic short track action as the field does battle on the short 0.875-mile-Iowa Speedway with speeds in the 180+mph range. Wilson has shown promise on the track, leading the 2013 race briefly before coming home 11th with Dale Coyne Racing. 

The 2014 edition of the event marks the seventh race at the Iowa oval for Wilson who scored his best finish of 10th at the track in 2012. In a season that has seen Wilson take four top-10 finishes so far this year, he is looking to earn his best Iowa Speedway finish this year in Saturday night’s race.

The Iowa event is the second night race of the 2014 season and is certain to produce some great action packed racing under the lights as the Verizon IndyCar Series competitors do battle in Round 12 of the 2014 championship.

“I have to admit that I am not sure what to expect this weekend, because Iowa can be very different not only from race to race, but also just from different parts of the day to the other,” said Wilson after being asked to make some predictions about the weekend.

“The temperature can have a big effect, making it so we can run side by side nearly all the way around, or sometimes making it a lot more strung out. One thing for sure, you have to have the car good through the bump in turn one and you also have to not be scrubbing speed, sort of like a super speedway. Hopefully we can start the weekend with a good balance and just pick up speed.”

Wilson will have just one practice session Friday morning to dial in the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda before qualifying which takes place Friday afternoon. A final 30-minute practice will run Friday evening.

The Iowa Corn 250 is set to go green at 8:50 PM ET with live coverage of the race beginning at 8:00 PM ET on NBC Sports.
