INDIANAPOLIS, IN - KVSH Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais is looking to build on the momentum he gained two weeks ago in Toronto as he heads into the final four races of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season beginning this weekend with the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, August 1-3, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Bourdais, who will pilot the No. 11 Team MISTIC - KVSH Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone machine this weekend, is coming off his first pole and first win since 2007. His pole for Toronto Race 1 was his first since Assen in 2007 and the win, also at Toronto Race 1, was his first since Mexico City in 2007.
The talented 35-year-old Frenchmen has every reason to believe he can continue the momentum he started in Toronto and finish the season strong because he has either already enjoyed success on all four of the circuits remaining on the 2014 calendar.
In four previous starts in Mid-Ohio, Bourdais has finished in the top-10 three times including twice in the top-five with a best showing of fourth in 2012 (placed fifth in his only Champ Car start in 2003). At Milwaukee, Bourdais has made only one start in an IndyCar, last year, but captured one of his four oval wins there in 2006. He has had solid results at Sonoma where he had a productive test earlier this year. In three appearances on the undulating and scenic Sonoma Raceway permanent road course, he has finished in the top-10 twice with a best showing of sixth in 2011 and has qualified as high as third (2012). Fontana is another track where Bourdais tested this year. It is also an oval he really likes as evidenced by his outstanding performance there last year, qualifying an IndyCar oval high fourth (had three poles on ovals in Champ Car) and leading 35 laps until a late race incident ended his night.
"KVSH Racing is coming off a weekend in Toronto where we showed that we are capable of achieving the results we expect for ourselves," Bourdais said. "If we continue to work hard I think we can build on that momentum. I like the Mid-Ohio circuit. I only raced there once in Champ cars so most of my experience there has come the last three years in Indy cars. We had a productive test at Mid-Ohio in the Mistic E-Cigs car last week. We worked through a lot of things and learned a lot, so hopefully we will have a good baseline setup right off the transporter."
Bourdais, the only driver to win four consecutive U. S. based open-wheel championships (2004-2007), currently sits 10th in the standings with 358points after the first 14 events of the 18-race 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season. He has earned six top-10 finishes including four top-five showings with one win.
This weekend's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday July 11th and Sunday, July 12th. They can also be heard live on IMS Radio Network baffiliates, XM Channel 209, Sirius Channel 213 IndyCar.com, IndyCarRadio.com or via the Verizon IndyCar14 app.
