Massa’s IndyCar safety debate escalates on Twitter
Former F1 star Felipe Massa’s criticism of IndyCar safety levels racing on ovals has prompted an escalation of opposition from current and former drivers in America's premier open-wheel class.
Following Robert Wickens’ dreadful accident at Pocono, and the first-corner accident in the Belgian Grand Prix a week later, Massa tweeted his view on Monday that F1 was doing more to protect its drivers.
But IndyCar drivers also then took to Twitter to condemn Massa’s opinion that IndyCar “is not doing much” to improve its safety while racing at 220mph superspeedway tracks.
