Another promising talent may have to turn away from F1 in pursuit of more realistic opportunities

Alexander Rossi is a promising American racer trying to break into Formula One. A GP2 and GP3 race-winner, Rossi has come heart-wrenchingly close to his highly sought after F1 debut on multiple occasions this year, but it never came to fruition.
This is his third year as an F1 test driver and the team he is currently aligned with (Marussia) is set to see all of its assets sold off in a couple weeks. Opportunities at the pinnacle of motorsport are far and few between as pay drivers reign supreme and teams desparate to survive, leaving talents like Rossi on the outside looking in.
He's not alone
He isn't the only F1-should-have-been that may cross the Atlantic and join the ranks of IndyCar next year. David Valsecchi (2012 GP2 champion) and Jean-Eric Vergne (58 F1 starts) are both in talks with teams in the North American-based racing series.
Rossi spoke recently about the current state of F1, saying the sport is in a 'transition period' and seats are scarce at the moment.
A valiant effort
Rumors continue to connect American Rossi with newly formed American race team Haas F1 and for obvious reasons. Those driver announcements won't be coming for many months though and I doubt the 23-year-old is going to sit around and wait. Rossi tried his best, earning a FP1 seat and even getting confirmed as a race day driver, only to see the car he was to pilot never make it to the grid.
Sadly, this is the current state of Formula One.
