Simon Pagenaud sets new fastest lap of the month at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS - About 40 minutes into Fast Friday, Scott Dixon threw down a 230.643mph lap, the fastest of the month. That stood as the best time until the final thirty minutes of the six hour practice when Team Penske asserted their domiance.

Simon Pagenaud topped Dixon with a 230.698mph lap late in the day, who responded, but still fell .007 thousandths short of the 39.012 second lap. The conditions today were not very favorable with high winds and a slick trick.

Five Chevrolets and a single Honda (Marco Andretti) managed to breach the 230mph mark. Along with the aforementioned trio, Will Power, Sage Karam and Tony Kanaan also joined the 230mph club.

After back-to-back days where a car was sent flying through the air, Friday's session went without incident. All 34 cars posted a time, including the newly repaired No. 63 Dale Coyne Racing Honda of Pippa Mann. She went out in the final moments, going 225.072mph.

Buddy Lazier was the slowest of all at 216.103mph.
