Arie Luyendyk Jr had knee surgery

Indianapolis, IN - Arie Luyendyk Jr. underwent surgery on his left knee on Friday, July 25.

His injury occurred from continual bruising of his left knee that occurred over the past few races. As a result, Luyendyk Jr. suffered a staph infection inside the knee joint as well as an infected bursa sac. The surgery was needed to remove the sac and the infection. Luyendyk Jfr.was released on Sunday and is scheduled to follow up with Dr. Hupfer of the Indiana Orthopedic Hospital on Tuesday August 5th to asses the healing of his left knee. At this time, no decision has been made on whether or not Luyendyk Jr. will compete at Kentucky Speedway on August 9th.

"I am determined to get healthy as quickly as possible. I have never had surgery before, but am hoping my recovery is swift so I can compete for the Firestone Indy Lights championship at the next event in Kentucky.
