Freedom 100 Cancelled Due to Rain Showers; Scheduled for Tomorrow
The Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100 was cancelled due to constant rain showers. The event has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. Also cancelled was the McDonalds Pit Stop Competition, which Panther won in 1998 and 2000. The team was entered in the competition, but the rain ruined chances of the team's third victory in the popular contest.
Panther driver Dillon Battistini will start the race on the pole in his No. 15 Alexp racecar, while teammate Brent Sherman will start his No.16 Delphi National Guard machine seventh.
Sherman, who is looking for his first win in the Firestone Indy Lights series, now has extra incentive to win the Freedom 100; Saturday marks the former NASCAR driver's 34th birthday.
Dillon Battistini, No. 15 AlexP Firestone Indy Lights:
"It's a long time to stay focused and mentally prepared for a race. It's a shame that we couldn't get it in today. I'll relax tonight and then get focused again in the morning. Tomorrow will be business as usual. The game plan is going to stay the same, but with all the rain the track may be a bit less quick than I expected it to be."
Brent Sherman, No. 16 Delphi National Guard Firestone Indy Lights
"Tomorrow is my birthday, and it would be nice to win on my birthday. We had rainouts all the time in NASCAR, so I've done this plenty of times before. My family is in town, and I'll hang out with them tonight, but tomorrow I'll get back to business."
