Mo Nunn Racing To Enter Menards Infiniti Pro Series

INDIANAPOLIS, Monday, June 14, 2004 -- Nunn Motorsports Inc. will campaign American driver P.J. Chesson under the Mo Nunn Racing banner in the Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series beginning with the Aventis Racing for Kids 100 at Kansas Speedway July 3. The new team will operate under the direction of Kathryn Nunn.

Chesson, a veteran of World of Outlaws competition, will turn his first laps in the No. 76 Mo Nunn Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone during an IRL Open Test at The Milwaukee Mile June 15.

"We're excited to become a part of the Menards Infiniti Pro Series," said Nunn. "This is the perfect forum for young drivers who aspire to one day race in the IndyCar Series. We look forward to being part of that process, and believe P.J. will bring a lot of excitement and color to the series."

Nunn's husband, Morris, founded Mo Nunn Racing in 1999 and first fielded a team in the IRL IndyCar® Series in 2002. The team earned its first win with Felipe Giaffone in 2002 and followed with a victory by Alex Barron in 2003. This year, Mo Nunn Racing fields the No. 12 Pioneer Mo Nunn Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone driven by Tora Takagi.

Chesson, 25, has competed in the World of Outlaws Series since 1998. The New Jersey native has earned more than 50 top-10 finishes and won The Historical Big One at Eldora Speedway in 2001.

"This is truly an amazing opportunity," Chesson said. "Having spent a considerable amount of time in the open-wheel, short-track world, the IRL was the next logical step for me. After speaking with (Menards Infiniti Pro Series Executive Director) Roger Bailey, he introduced me to Kathryn. I have been so impressed with the level of professionalism at Mo Nunn Racing and am honored to drive for them."

The Menards Infiniti Pro Series was formed in 2002 as a tool for drivers and teams to gain the experience necessary to compete in the IndyCar Series. Menards Infiniti Pro Series champions A.J. Foyt IV (2002) and Mark Taylor (2003), along with 2003 Freedom 100 winner Ed Carpenter, are regulars on the IndyCar Series circuit.

The 2004 Menards Infiniti Pro Series season continues with The Aventis Racing for Kids 100 July 3 at Kansas Speedway. The race will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) July 4 on ESPN2.
