Lucas Place Motorsports shows well during Arizona testing

Lucas Place Motorsports recently completed six days of successful testing at Firebird International Raceway and Phoenix International Raceway with drivers Brian Cunningham and Geoff Boss. Cunningham, however, was unable to drive at the Firebird International Raceway road course due to rib injuries suffered during a crash in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

While Cunningham watched from the sidelines, Boss handled the testing duties at Firebird with great smoothness and consistency, while turning competitive lap times.

The team then moved on to the fast one mile Phoenix International Raceway. After sitting out the previous test session, Cunningham rejoined his teammate behind the wheel. Both Boss and Cunningham recorded very quick lap times that equaled the previous track record. Their lap times were consistently faster than those that were set by the other Indy Lights teams testing at the time.

The test however was not without incident. Cunningham spun as he entered turn one and impacted the outside wall with the left side of the car during his last run on the final day of testing. Cunningham was uninjured in the accident, but complained of soreness in his already tender ribs. The car sustained moderate damage in the crash, and has since been repaired.

Despite the incident, team manager Chris Lucas was very pleased with the test. "That was the best test that Lucas Place Motorsports has ever had," said Lucas. "We were fast at both tracks and we are looking forward to being championship contenders next year. The feedback about the car that Cunningham and Boss gave us was excellent, which really has Boss's engineer, Burke Harrison excited. I was also impressed with Boss's fitness level and his ability to drive the car six consecutive days."

Collectively, the team ran 1000 miles over the six-day period, with Boss recording 800 of those miles, and Cunningham running the remaining 200 miles.

The team will depart for Sebring, Florida on December 13 for a two day test session at Sebring International Raceway. The team will also test at the Roebling Road road course in Savannah, Georgia on December 17 - 19. Both Cunningham and Boss are scheduled to test on each of those days.
