Plowman Participates in "Racing to Home Build" with Habitat for Humanity
An Irishman and an Englishman working together? It was one of many miracles in a near east-side Indianapolis neighborhood on Thursday, November 5. Martin Plowman and an Irish carpenter named Tristan worked to build a front porch railing for the McClure family as part of a Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis build.
Plowman was joined by fellow Indy Lights drivers Dan Clarke and Charlie Kimball and NHRA Top Fuel drag racers Antron Brown, Larry Dixon and Cory McClenathan as part of the Indiana Motorsports Association-sponsored event. Each driver was paired up with a member of Indy Partnership-Central Indiana's Economic Development Commission to complete a task in the home.
Working in the biting cold and rain was no easy task, but the team was well-rewarded by meeting the family who would be moving into the house on December 8. Smiles abounded as the workers wrapped up their projects that afternoon knowing they had made a small but significant difference in the lives of one Indianapolis family.
MARTIN PLOWMAN: "In the off-season we have a lot of time on our hands and it's good to give something back to the community. I can't help as much as some of the professionals who work on the home, but I'm doing my part. It was nice to know I was a part of a project that was going to make a big difference in someone's life. Working with the McClure family was so rewarding. And I'd have to say it was a success because I managed to do it without losing an eye or a finger."
