Younessi Racing Disappointed with 14th Place Finish at Freedom 100
INDIANAPOLIS, IN: Indianapolis-based Younessi Racing finished a disappointing 14th in the Firestone Indy Lights™ Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after being caught up in an accident on lap 5. The accident, which involved a total of 5 cars, occurred when four cars spun directly in front of the Younessi Racing car as driver Peter Dempsey entered turn two.
This is the first oval race for the newly formed team. Ireland native Peter Dempsey qualified with a speed of 185.313 MPH.
“I did my best to avoid contact but when the cars bounced off the wall, they came directly in my path,” said Dempsey. “I would have cleared the wreck if I had another three feet. I was already low on the track and had nowhere else to go. It is a shame for Younessi Racing and all of our sponsors; Kilroy’s Bar and Grill, Seminole Harley-Davidson, and Space Coast Harley-Davidson. Everyone on the team has put in a huge effort to get the car ready for this race. We now work to go to Detroit and prove to the series what we can do. I am really looking forward to racing on Belle Isle. With the crew and team that we have, I know we will bounce back and be competitive.”
“We are very disappointed with this result but we are happy that no drivers were injured,” said owner / driver Rodin Younessi. "We are working hard in preparation for running two cars at Detroit. We are very excited to continue building this team and to expand to a two car effort. We accept the challenge of battling with the larger teams.”
