2006 Coupe de Montreal Championship

Montreal, Quebec -- May 4th, 2006.-- Sportimage.net -- The 2006 season of the Coupe de Montreal karting championship will start this Saturday, May 6th on the SRA Karting racetrack in St-Roch-de-L'Achigan. 125 drivers are expected to take part in the first event. Considered as the training field for future professional drivers, the Coupe de Montreal championship is a 7 event championship held on 2 tracks near Montreal. SH Karting is located the south shore in Mont St-Hilaire and SRA Karting International on the north shore, in St-Roch-de-L'Achigan.

Nine classes are racing in this championship. Three of them are the Rotax classes, including the new Rotax Mini Max class for drivers aged between 10 to 13 years old. Three classes are powered by Honda engines (junior, senior Lite and senior). The last three classes are the young cadet drivers (8 to 10 y.o.) the Masters and the powerfull Formula 125 which can reach a top speed of 150 km/h. Each event will present eight classes.

One goal : winning !

All drivers have the same goal: win the race. "Whatever the competitors' age the competitor, they only have one idea in their minds: victory! " says Michel Boisclair, president of SRA Karting International. "Passion is probably the best word to explain the presence of these drivers. Some are here to develop their talents and maybe become the next Carpentier, Tagliani or Ranger. Some come to get an adrenalin rush at 130 km/h on a racetrack, safely, of course, and to share this passion with their family".

User-friendliness

" After so many years, the Coupe de Montreal championship is the reference for any car racing driver in Quebec. The great atmosphere and friendship between drivers make our championship a success in spite of the fact that car racing remains an individual sport" says Clement Duriez, president of SH Karting.

Two great karting tracks

For over 31 years, Clement Duriez, president fo SH Karting has offered leisure karters as well as racers a well known karting installation situated in beautiful Mont St-Hilaire. The facility has two 700 meter tracks which can be combined for special events such as the Coupe de Montreal.

SRA Karting\'s track was conceived so as to satisfy the highest standards of the FIA (Federation Internationale Automobile). With a length of 1.234 km and having a minimum width of 8 meters, our track hosted the 1999 North American Karting Championship and the 2001 World Championship where drivers such as Formula One driver Vitantonio Liuzzi (Toro Rosso) and Nico Rosberg (Williams) and GP2 driver Lewis Hamilton showed their talent. In 2006, SRA Karting will host the Quebec karting Championship.
