Sunday, the Burris Circle Tour made its second stop of the year. This week's race was held at Joliet Memorial Stadium, just southwest of Chicago. A huge Mother's Day crowd watched a day of action-packed family racing.

Racers in the Burris Circle Tour are from 5 to 50(ish). The youngest class racing this year is the Kid's Kart class, featuring new racers from 5 to 7 years old. One of these racers, Frank James Slabenak, comes from a long line of racers. His dad, mom and uncle also race with the tour. The Circle Tour is a family day out for the Baran's, Kliem's, Mooi's, Booe's, Lishamer's, Kuzniar's, and Byrne's who all have multiple family members competing.

All of the racing on Sunday was a close as it gets, with the Briggs Light class putting on a spectacular show. Reid Ceponis, who won the first heat, got sideways early in the feature and was out of the race. This opened up the door for Kenneth Hill, Josh Stahl, Paul Weter and Jon Hassler to form up in the lead pack. After a number of lead and position changes, Jon Hassler finally took the lead position in his new Legend Vision II racing chassis. He hung on from a strong charge at the checker from Weter and Hill who finished second and third, respectively.

The Novice class was also a nail biter. These young drivers, from 8 --12 raced like seasoned veterans. Jeff Everts took the early lead, and Adam Carlson covered his rear number panel. Adam, showing grit and determination tried a pass at almost every corner. Adam's kart was very strong coming out of turns 2 and 4 and he could get to the outside of Everts on every straightaway. He finally made a move and ducked down on the inside to make the pass stick and take over the lead in the final laps. Gina Mooi showed why she is going to be a great racer by starting in a backup kart after taking both right side tires off her kart and hitting the wall in the heat race. She deftly worked from 12th up to 7th. Other Novices making a strong showing were Tyler Baran, Clay Kliem, Mickey Kudlicki and Corey Domenick.

Sunday, May 21st, the Circle Tour will be at the Lake Geneva Raceway and will return to Joliet Memorial Stadium June 4th. The International Racing Association sanctions the tour. Spectators are welcome in the grandstands for free. <pre> Race Results Joliet Memorial Stadium 5/14/00 Kid's Kart Name Hometown 1 Megan Booe Carol Stream, IL 2 Clint Kliem Elgin, IL 3 Frank James Slabenak Palos Park, IL 4 Brian Ellis 5 Kaitlyn Booe Carol Stream, IL Medium Briggs Name Hometown Heat 1 Heat 2 Feature 1 David Byrne Shullsburg, WI 3 2 1 2 Joe Veyette Indianpolis, IL 12 1 2 3 Jamie Rediehs Hinsdale, IL 5 6 3 4 Jonathan HasslerGreencastle, IN 4 4 4 5 Josh Stahl Sandwich, IL 1 5 5 6 Nikki Yepsen South Elgin, IL 11 11 6 7 Chris Lishamer Elgin, IL 2 8 7 8 Mark Johnson Plano, IL 6 7 8 9 Brandon Hill Lake Geneva, WI 10 3 9 10 Bryan Muncy Lemont, IL 8 12 10 11 J.J.
