Go Kart Racing - Burris National Speedway Series Championship Indoor Racing

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - It may have been icy outside, but the action - and the brakes were hot inside. Raceway Kart Association, GEM Promotions and Fine Line Auto Body, with the aid of a few gallons of Coke syrup and a 1/8 mile of ABS plastic barricades, converted the Wisconsin State Fair Products Pavilion into a first rate indoor racing venue for the New Year's Weekend.

The action grew hotter as the coke syrup took rubber. On Saturday, the 8 fastest qualifiers, regardless of class, ran a 15 lap shoot-out for a set of Burris Tires donated by the Grundy County Motorsports Association. Regan and Ryan Vehring set the tone with close, fast paced action. Midway through the race, the spectators could see the brakes glowing across the building. Regan was just too fast off the start after a yellow flag and was on his way to the checkered flag. Animal Sr. racers Brad Richards and Justin Marrs were nipping at Vehrings back bumper to finish in 2nd and 3rd. Ashley Hieronimus, a Jr. 2 racer mixed it up with the big guys for a close 4th place finish, while Jimmy Yurs, a Jr. 3 driver finished in 5th.

Other action from Saturday included feature wins by Brett Edmunds, Andy Jones, Joe Brenner, Cullen Breeden, Mackenzie Piller, Tyler Kuder, Aaron Katzenberg, Regan Vehring, Joe Moser, J. Mike Lynard, Dave Wastak, Kyle LaPier.

Starting with the base of rubber put down the day before, the Milwaukee track got faster and faster. By feature time, Jr. 2 standout Ashley Hieronimus had her kart dialed in and threw down the gauntlet to the rest of the field by turning in a 6.479 lap time. The racing was furious throughout the day, but the lap time held until local kart shop owner, Regan Vehring slipped in one lap faster than Ashley at 6.371 on his way to his second feature win in the Animal Class of the weekend.

The Jr. 3 class was the most hotly contested race. Jimmy Yurs started from the 4th position and slowly worked his way to the front and his kart continued to gain momentum. Yurs passed Collin Lameyer, John Beinlich, and Aaron Katzenberg to take victory.

Other feature winners for the day were Michael Kann, David Budres, Sr., Derrick Gough, Mackenzie Piller, Ryan Marshall, Tyler Middleton, Cullen Breeden, Joe Brenner and Brett Edmunds.

Racing was close, the barricades kept the racers separated from the spectators, and a good time was had by all. The promoters John Nuttall and Dave Larson were happy with the event and hope to make the indoor series an annual event for Midwest racers.
