In addition to the prestigious 24 Hour event for cars in June, the circuit of Le Mans is also the site all year long of various endurance competitions, including the 24 Hours of karting.

The race welcomes fast and furious machinery; race karts that are a little more than 300 pounds (including the driver!) and powered by 40-hp plus motors. These purebred karts are designed for endurance racing. They are fitted with bumpers, headlights and quick fit wheels. During the pit stops, the mechanics don’t pour gasoline in the fuel tank; they simply remove the empty tank and install a new one full. That’s not all: a complete engine with its exhaust can be changed in less than 60 seconds!

Each team is made of four drivers. Canadian Marco Signoretti will be driving kart No. 40 entered by Energy Corse team – an Energy chassis powered by a Parilla IAME OK engine. Signoretti, a Business Administration student at Trent University, will be driving alongside Sweden’s Joel Johansson, Irishman Marco Hayes and Frenchman Tony Lavanant.

Thirty-three teams have entered the event, including factory efforts from Energy Corse, CRG Spa and Sodikart. There will also be a team comprised of an all-disabled kart racers as well as an all-female race team looking to bring home awareness and the trophy.

The 24-hour marathon will be staged on the 1.385 km Le Mans Karting International circuit. Testing will begin this Thursday and qualifying will be held on Friday. The race will go green at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Signoretti is one of Canada’s best kart racers. In addition to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he will also take part in the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Portugal.
