CROCKETT AND WEBER CONTINUE WINNING STREAK IN CENTRAL STATES CHALLENGE
S2 championship chase heats up while Indy driver continues to show the way in TaG Junior following Kansas City round

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 22, 2010) - The penultimate round of the 2010 Superkarts! USA Central States Challenge took the program to a new facility - the Precision Driving Center outside Kansas City - over the August 21-22 weekend. The event brought together series regulars and local stars in seven categories around the multi-configuration circuit.

The event, however, began with troubling news as the Mayton family - from Flint Hill, MO - was involved in a major accident on Interstate-70 near Columbia Friday night traveling to the Kansas City area for the event. Austin Mayton, the point leader in the TaG Cadet category heading into the event - along with his parents (John and Rebecca) and two-year old brother (Drew) - were traveling in their RV when the incident occurred. Rebecca was driving the vehicle and sustained serious injuries and had to be extracted from the driver seat. While all John, Austin and Drew walked away with minor scraps and bruises, Rebecca suffered two collapsed lungs and severely broken legs among other injuries. Since being transported to the hospital, she has undergone a number of surgeries. Recent updates have her breathing on her own however the condition of her broken legs is still questionable. The entire Central States Challenge family sends their thoughts and prayers to the Mayton family and hope for a full and speedy recovery for Rebecca.

Needing a strong weekend to muscle his way back into the title chase, Derek Crockett did just that as he swept the action in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto. The two-time SKUSA Pro Tour winner started the year out slow but has bounced back to win the last three features in SCSC competition, including the round in Kansas City. Point leader Lukas Johnson was his closet challenge throughout the event, coming just 71-thousandths from the pole position in qualifying on Saturday. Crockett would then score the heat wins by four-seconds and six-seconds before leading all 14 laps of the main event for the victory. Johnson would cross the line two-seconds back in second with Kyle Gnau completing the podium, moving him closer to the fight for third in the standings with Carly Mandarino - who finished fourth. Kyle Donahue was the lone S4 driver, going uncontested to the victory.

Karl Weber continued on dominating the TaG Junior category, leaving Kansas City with a perfect performance. The Junior rookie was nearly untouchable during the two days as he out-qualified the field by nearly seven-tenths of a second. Scoring the heat wins by large margins, Weber led all 12 laps of the main event to take the win by 13-seconds. Richy Yates and Colton Brooks made their return to the series with podium finishes while championship contender Nathan White struggled on the weekend, placing seventh with a DNF.

The TaG Cadet category carried on minus Mayton with Kyle Kennedy leading the way. Kennedy edged out Kyle Potts by just one-thousandths of a second in qualifying to earn the top spot. Potts however was unable to start the opening heat race with a mechanical issue. This left Kennedy to battle with James Yates and Jacob Winslow, finishing in that order. Potts returned in heat two, driving from last to first in the eight-lap run while Kennedy retired on lap seven. Winslow ran second as Yates and Kamryn Sloan, both battling in the front, were disqualified. Yates was removed from the results for losing a neck collar while Sloan came in underweight. Once out front, Potts led the entire 12 laps in the main event to score his first win of the season. Yates rebounded to finish second with championship contender Ryan Joehl rounding out the podium. Kennedy was challenging for a podium spot, running the fast lap of the race until falling off on lap 10, dropping back to finish sixth.

The fight in S5 Junior Stock Moto raged on between Colton Brooks and Joe Reed. Brooks led the majority of the event with Reed keeping the pressure on throughout qualifying and the two heat races. On the opening lap of the main event, Brooks barely left the starting grid when his entry lost power and would have to watch from the sidelines, leaving Reed to take the point and cruise to his fourth victory of the season with Colt Masewich placing second. In TaG Senior, Derek Crockett and Brad Winkelmann led the way early on, placing 1-2 in qualifying and the first heat race. Prior to heat two, Crockett gave up parts on his TaG entry to allow a TaG Junior driver to keep competing, thus sitting out the remainder of the event. Kaylee Granberg took his spot at the front and was able to outrun Winkelmann in the second heat. Granberg continued the fast pace, leading all the laps of the main event to score the victory in her first start of the season. Kamryn Sloan was the long competitor in the local option Yamaha Junior Sportsman category while Luke Howard and Zach Granberg competed in the Kid Kart division.

The 2010 season will wrap up at the seventh round, scheduled for the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri on the September 11-12 weekend. To find out more about being part of the 2010 SKUSA Central States Challenge, visit www.centralstateschallenge.com.
