Trane Motor Speedway, August 3rd . -- Kevin Lacroix finally earned his first victory in the highly competitive karting series Stars of Tomorrow when he got his two first checkered flags at the Trane Motor Speedway near Sheridan in Illinois. Constantly fighting with Ohian Kyle Rahal, the Saint-Eustache, Quebec 14-year old youngster held his ground and won the heat and the final in the 80 cc Jr class this Sunday. He currently sits in second place, a few points only from archrival Rahal.

" I had to settle for third places on Saturday, declares Lacroix. Instead of always putting on my best performances when I start the weekend, I decided to take it a bit more easy and be satisfied with a position on the two first rows of the starting grid. I had qualified first many times this season but had failed to win. This time was the other way around. On Sunday, I was second in the qualifying session but got my first two victories in the heat and the final."

The weight of a decision !

In order to meet the 320-pound weight limit, PSL Racing decided to remove some equipment and even the front brakes on Kevin's CRG machine. "We knew Kevin would have to change his driving, said manager Sylvain Lacroix, but we were confident he could master his little seater and stay ahead of the pack."

The decision proved right. Kevin qualified second on Sunday morning and ran from wire to wire in the heat as well as the final in the afternoon.

Rivalry between Kyle (Rahal) and Kevin puts them a few points apart and their next meet is scheduled for mid-September in Jacksonville, Florida.

Next visit: the Canadians in Mosport

PSL Racing and Kevin Lacroix's next stop is Mosport Complex in Ontario where the Canadian Karting championships will be held on August 15 and 16. Kevin will be looking for his first chance to earn a national title against the best drivers in Ontario and Quebec, as well as some teams from Western Canada and the Maritimes. Looking ahead, some dates are being considered for Kevin to fly to Europe in order to participate to some rounds on the international calendar.

The team behind the driver

Full-time driver for PSL racing team, Kevin Lacroix is entered in the 2003 international championship " Stars of Tomorrow ", the Coupe du Quebec series and will head for Europe in the Italian Karting championship.
