New Castle, Indiana, July 7, 2004. -- After earning a podium in his first race of the Stars of Tomorrow Series, in Pennsylvania, young Toby Rinaldoni experienced a different weekend at the New Castle complex in Indianapolis, for the second race. Engines troubles prevented him to qualify in the top positions on Saturday, while he was involved in contacts on Sunday. But he's very happy for all the experience he collected by brushing with much more experienced competitors.

"This is my very first season in the senior class," says Toby, "and I'm learning so much about preparing the karts and driving on these tracks that I feel like I'm getting a year's worth of experience every month! This weekend's results are not so good, but I know that what I learned here will come in useful one day."

Engine Troubles

Right from the qualifying heat on Saturday, Rinaldoni could only score in the 10th position. A valve was stuck and prevented the engine to go up in revs, which lowered its top speed. "My service crew fixed the problem as soon as I was off the track, declared the young Sainte-Catherine driver, but I was still starting from the fifth line on the grid. I managed to pull up to 6th position in the pre-final, and to 8th in the final, as I was glued in kart traffic."

Colliding on Sunday

Toby greatly improved his starting position on Sunday, when he qualified 5th. But the last two heats resulted in contacts with other competitors. "This series is eagerly disputed," confided Rinaldoni. "The tiniest mistake leads to a brush with another kart. I got pushed on one occasion, and I was involved in a multiple crash on another, which put an end to my day. But I'll be back next week in Terrebonne for the next Coupe du Quebec event."
