HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (May 9, 2001) - Starting Thursday, May 10, Hardeeville Motor Speedway will host the 2001 Briggs & Stratton Go-Kart and Bandolero Cars Summer Racing Series. The eight-race schedule will feature 10 classes of go-karts, along with the Bandolero Cars. With the opportunity to race, the competitors will also have the chance to win a Go-Kart Raptor or Animal engine, to be awarded by Briggs & Stratton.

The eight races are scheduled to be run on May 10, May 24, June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 9 and August 23 at the 1/5-mile D-shaped asphalt oval track. The 10 classes in which the go-karts will be grouped are the Jr. Sportsman I, Jr. Sportsman II, Jr. Restricted, Jr. Unrestricted, Tecumseh, Stock Light, Stock Medium, Stock Heavy, Stock Super Heavy and Senior Stock, for those drivers 35 years of age and older.

As part of the series promotion, Briggs & Stratton will give away two engines on Thursday, August 23 to entice the competitors to return each week. For every entry into a race, a competitor will be entered into a drawing for one of the two engines to be given away that evening. The number of chances is based on the number of classes entered. For the second engine drawing, only those competitors that have competed in all eight scheduled events will be eligible.

"We are pleased to offer those wishing to compete in go-karts, the opportunity to race at our facility," stated Todd Fisher, General Manager for Hardeeville Motor Speedway. "With Briggs & Stratton's support of the series, we look forward to a large turnout and lots of exciting go-kart action this summer."

Go-kart racing takes place on selected Thursday nights with grandstands opening at 6:00 p.m. Practice begins at 7:00 p.m., with heat races going green at 8:30 p.m. Feature races follow the heat events. Pit passes are available for purchase for $10, with children under six admitted free. Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 on Highway 17.
