The Los Angeles Kart Club has a new home:
Irwindale Speedway!

After enjoying 15-plus years racing at Saugus Speedway, Saugus, Ca. the Los Angeles Kart CluB is moving to Irwindale Speedway, southern California's premiere short-track racing venue.

Club President and long-time Karter Jim Shafer and members of the LAKC board have worked closely with Irwindale Speedway's Chris Morgan, Doug Stokes, Bob DeFazio and others to make Karting at the facility a reality.

Racing will be mainly on the infield track and may incorporate part of the main oval. The track design has not yet been finalized. The club has ordered foam barriers to use in place of hay bales. These barriers are designed specifically for Karting and are similar to the barriers used for stadium motocross racing.

LAKC has compiled a professional race crew including a race director, flagman and corner workers, all with many years of racing experience. Safety, professionalism and FUN are the main goals of LAKC. Irwindale is a first-class facility. Its concession stand will be open during LAKC race days and there will be plenty of pit space for racers and bleachers for spectators.

Irwindale Speedway will add LAKC to their marquee and will give the club a link on their Web site. LAKC will also be able to hold demonstration races at their Saturday night events to promote karting. It will be a win-win situation for all involved. Yes, the inaugural race at this new site is on Easter Sunday. But those of you who attend sunrise services will have plenty of time to make it to the track. The following race dates have been confirmed for 2002:

March 31
April 14
May 26
June 9
July 14
Aug 11
Sept 22
Oct 13
Nov 24

Gates and registration opens at 7a.m. on all race days. Practice starts at 8:45 (There will be 3 rounds of practice for the March 31st race) Racing will start at approx at NOON..
