Nashville, TN - The inaugural SSC Shifter Kart Pro Series event was held at the brand new Nashville Super Speedway on April 22. The IRA sanctioned event, held in conjunction with the Championship Enduro Series, offers a percentage based payback of entry fees and a year end pay back based on points. The top five are eligible for pay back at each event. The pro series will have competitors competing on MG yellow tires throughout the season and includes a podium celebration immediately following each race.

The field was full of experienced road race veterans and the racing action proved that the new series will have a good following for the remainder of the year. Seasoned road racer, Tim Koutny, jumped to the early lead in the Pro-S1 race followed closely by pole sitter Ted Tackett. The two hooked up quickly as was part of the strategy and began to pull a margin over Marc Miller alone in third until lap 5 when Tackett was sidelined with a mechanical while leading Koutny. With Koutny out in front all alone, the drafting advantage was leaned back to the duo of Miller and Lance Lane who hooked up and began closing the gap.

Miller and Lane continued to close slowly until Miller was forced to pit with 6 laps remaining due to a broken nose cone. Koutny crossed the line with a 4.7 second advantage over Lane followed by Clayton Prater and Dan Bales. Miller recovered to finish fifth.

This event was the first road race to be held at the new Nashville Super Speedway which had just opened the weekend prior for a NASCAR Busch Grand National event. The road course configuration is 1.5 miles in length and utilizes the oval's front and back straight-aways. The infield portion of the course is very tight and many karts found their way onto the red Tennessee dirt, kicking up dirt and gravel when they returned.

Next stop for the series will be at Blackhawk Farms on May 11 - 13. <pre> SSC Racing Pro Shifter Kart Series Results
