Spring Run, PA-Path Valley Karting teams and fans in the free grandstand pitched in for a van load of supplies for the local food banks Saturday, in addition to the pick-up load collected Friday night.

Matt Horst was the feature winner as more than a dozen of the winged outlaw karts visited Path Valley. Horst, from Liverpool, started second and passed Scott Messimer for the lead in the early laps. The front five were Horst, Messimer, Mike Kline, Frank Zeplin and Shane Dressler.

More than 100 kart teams raced as some prepared for next Sunday's Pennsylvania Dirt Karters Association (PDKA) state championship series race. Gates open next Saturday at 11 a.m. for the karts and four-wheelers, and the four-wheelers also race in next Saturday night's AMA Motorcycle races. Gates open at 7 a.m. Sunday for the PDKA race that in the past has attracted more than 300 teams from six states to Path Valley.

Stock cars, Legends and sprints race Friday nights on the smooth clay and steep banks of the Path Valley quarter mile. Next Friday is Pepsi Race Night and features a $500 to win feature for the four-cylinder thunder cars and the Dwarf Cars as special guests.

Karts and four wheelers race Saturday afternoons and five classes of sprints race with the Legends Saturday nights. AMA motorcycles race once a month and special shows include a 200-lap Enduro race Sunday, August 26 and the season's third Junk Car Race Sunday, Sept. 2.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike off Route 75.
