Make your plans today for KartFest 2010

01.05.2010 -- With the conclusion of Daytona KartWeek by Cometic Gasket last Wednesday, WKA now turns its attention to its biggest off-track event of the year, KartFest 2010, which will go off Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30.

After a successful, history-making KartWeek event at Daytona, WKA is eager to renew its yearly consumer trade show, this time at the state-of-the-art Carolina First Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Located just 1_ hours southwest from Charlotte, the new venue provides KartFest with over 50,000 square feet of exhibit space. Each vendor space is 10'x10' with many exhibitors utilizing multiple spaces.

To date, verified exhibitors include the following: Al's Kart Supply, American Kart Racing Association, Bordeaux Dyno Cams, Briggs & Stratton Racing, Chase'N Race'N Illustrated, Competition Karting Inc., Cuda of North Georgia, Dixie Karting / Superior Racing, Ford's Fuel Service, G-Man Kartworks, God Father Chassis, Hi-Tech Racing / Millenium Racing, Hilliard Corp., Hoosier Racing Tires, Intercomp Scales, Jammer Clutches, Jimmy Rivers Performance Works, Kart Riser, Rix Rocket, Shadow Racing Chassis, Streeter Super Stands, Target Distributing, Thor Oil Company, TMC Racewear, TS Racing, Ultramax Racing Chassis, South Carolina Dirt Divisional and North Carolina Pavement Divisional / OCR Action Sports Park.

A number of seminars will also be held at KartFest, and a schedule of those informational events will be announced within the next week.

And of course the annual awards banquets for WKA's three 4-cycle national series will be part of the KartFest activities. Friday night will see the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series banquet held, followed by a combined Saturday night banquet for the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series and Bully Clutches Gold Cup Series.

In addition to top points finishers, sponsor recognition and other special awards, four Triple Crown champions will be honored between the two nights. The Speedway Dirt banquet will see Georgia's Dee Paschal pick up his first-ever Triple Crown for his five-class championship season on the dirt tour. On Saturday, three Gold Cup competitors will take the stage and accept their Triple Crown laurels. Michigan's Brett Farmer will accept his first Triple Crown for his four-class championship campaign, while Ohio Gold Cup drivers Dakota Bell and Gary Lawson will have to make room in their awards rooms for a second Triple Crown trophy. Both Bell and Lawson will be crowned consecutive Triple Crown titlists.

WKA thanks all for a fine KartWeek

01.05.2010 -- WKA would like to take a final opportunity to thank all racers, fans, officials, sponsors and everyone who made Daytona KartWeek by Cometic Gasket a part of their 2009 holiday season. The event, which saw three WKA national series compete at one central location for the first time ever, was not only a rousing success, but filled with building blocks of potential for future Daytona events.

The George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series and Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series, both driven by Mazda, continued their strong annual showings in northern Florida with renewals of the Margay Sprint Championships and Daytona Championships. The Road Racing entry count was an impressive 615 compared to 542 last year while the Margay Sprint Championships had 598 entries take to the seven-tenths-mile infield sprint course.

Of course, the historical aspect of KartWeek 2009 came in the form of a brand-new quarter-mile dirt track that graced the grounds of DIS outside turns 1 and 2 of the superspeedway. The racers of the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series hit the new track Monday for practice day and along with officials worked it in to become one of the best surfaces for dirt-kart racing in recent memory. The ultra-smooth surface coupled with good-sized fields in most divisions made for some terrific racing all week at the dirt track, and many races went down to the wire with last-lap passes and battles for position.

While the entry-count number topping off at 298 still wasn't as high as past Dirt World Championship events at the Municipal Stadium, WKA officials are enthusiastic that a foundation for this event has been formed and word will spread regarding the outstanding new dirt oval and the organized fashion the Dirt Series events are being run. Officials have expectations that entry numbers can at least double for 2010's version of the Dirt World Championships.
