Carnesville added as 4th Speedway Dirt venue
02.26.2010 -- WKA officials are proud to announce the addition of the Georgia Karting Complex in Carnesville, Georgia, as the fourth venue for the 2010 Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series July 30 - Aug. 1. Well known for its convenience right off of 1-85, not to mention stellar local competition, the addition of the Carnesville facility completes what appears to be one of the best Speedway Dirt series schedules venue-wise in quite some time.
Coming off a most successful return to Daytona for the Dirt World Championships back in December, the series will next visit Hurricane Raceway in Alma, Georgia, April 9-11 for the Bordeaux Dyno Cams Nationals. Stop No. 3 will be a June 18-20 date at the popular Margarettsville Speedway in Margarettsville, North Carolina.
The battle for the coveted Grand National Eagle will take place at Carnesville in late July with a much-anticipated return to Dumplin Valley Raceway in Tennessee Sept. 10-12.
Plans are already in the works for the 2011 schedule with Daytona once again leading the charge, and other new facilities being discussed. The Speedway Dirt national schedule will be updated soon.

Options abundant for Gold Cup racers in 2010
02.26.2010 -- As the Russell Karting Gold Cup Series wheels its way into Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, March 12-14 for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals, competitors, fans and the like will feast their eyes on a plethora of classes that will fill the pits.
As is the case in the business world for any company, finding ways to increase awareness through creation of new and innovative products is one of the keys to staying afloat. That statement could not be truer as four local-option classes have been created for new and existing customers, bringing the total number of classes to 26 that will participate in race No. 1. Adding the Kid Karts and the much-anticipated Animal Heavy Money Race raises the number to 29 events in one weekend, a definite bargain for any racer or fan coming to see the best 4-cycle competitors in America.
Leading the local-option charge will be the International Pure Stock Senior and Junior classes, aka Clones. These classes will run both days in every event this year. The success and support these classes have endured in other parts of the country led WKA officials to add them to an already stellar national lineup.
Joining the International Stock classes will be the Senior Briggs LO 206 and Junior LO 206 classes, providing racers quite a few options for the new racing season. With the addition of the classes, the race-day slate will be increased by two main events each day as the International Senior Pure Stocks and Senior LO 206 will be integrated, likewise for the junior local option racers. The format will mirror that of the World Formula and Super Stock classes in 2009 in which both classes were on the track at the same time, receiving staggered starts in their heats and main events.
The local-option classes will not run for national points in 2010, but the top three will receive awards at each event. Class specifications and the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals entry blank will be updated on WorldKarting.com soon.

Gold Cup racer Ben Wagenhals looking for donations to a good cause
02.26.2010 -- WKA Russell Karting Gold Cup Series veteran Ben Wagenhals is participating in a charity event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Jerry's Kids and is asking for donations. The event will see Wagenhals locked up in a makeshift jail at a Rochester, New York-area restaurant on March 25. The money Wagenhals raises between now and March 25 is considered bail money for his release and will be donated to the MDA. His bail is set at $1600.
Wagenhals, 19, of Webster, N.Y., says a friend nominated him for the charity event and he was more than happy to participate.
"This is for a great cause," Ben said. "Not every kid is as fortunate as me. I'm blessed with a great skill to drive a go-kart and I'm able to do that at a national level while some kids never get to see the outside of hospital room. I know how great the karting community is and I'm asking if people would make donations toward my bail. Of course, all the money goes to the MDA. I'm very proud to say I am a part of the karting community and that people in our community backed me up on this."
So far donations for Wagenhals' bail total $360. Go to ww.joinmda.org/MyLockup/MyHomepage/tabid/132493/Participant/wgn hls/Default.aspx or call Ben at 585-729-3882 if you'd like to make a donation to this good cause.
