One triple, 7 double winners at Hurricane Bordeaux Dyno Cams Nationals

04.13.2010 - The WKA Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series was back in action over the weekend after over three months off since the 2010 opener at Daytona International Speedway. The Bordeaux Dyno Cams Nationals at Alma, Georgia's Hurricane Raceway marked round No. 2 of the 2010 season, and over 200 entries made the event another positive step in the rebuilding process of the Dirt Series. The entry count doubled that of the 2009 Hurricane Dirt national.

Brayton Haws led all racers with three national feature wins at Hurricane. Haws swept the Sportsman 1 ranks, taking wins in Falcon Racing / Southern Express Briggs Sportsman 1 Lite, Shadow Racing Chassis Sportsman 1 Heavy and Digatron Sportsman 1 Champ.

Seven racers wheeled their karts to a pair of wins. RL Anderson won both Briggs Sportsman 2 flat kart mains. The classes were the largest junior divisions with 13 karts starting each.

Trey Mishue swept the Briggs Jr mains, winning Bordeaux Dyno Cams Briggs Jr Lite and Briggs Jr Heavy. Austin Berry did the same in the Briggs Jr Champ category, triumphing in Jr Champ Lite and Jr Champ Heavy.

Austin Smith won the 20-kart Briggs Lite main to become the weekend's first feature winner. Smith returned later Saturday to win the weekend's largest class, the 24-kart Ultramax Racing Chassis Briggs Heavy feature.

2009 Triple Crown champion Dee Paschal finished second, third and second in Briggs Lite, Medium and Heavy. While that set of top-three finishes is impressive enough, the Hawkinsville, Georgia, shoe didn't go winless. Paschal won Briggs Raptor Lite and Raptor Heavy, which again saw solid fields at Hurricane after good turnouts at Daytona. Twenty karts started Lite and 18 took the green in Heavy.

Daytona double winner Brad Bracken won one national feature and one local option in Georgia. Bracken was victorious in Briggs Super Heavy and E.C. Distributing International Stock Pure Stock. Daytona winner Donnie Nall won both senior Champ mains over Bradley Hauser.

There were more double winners than single winners at Hurricane. Only five drivers visited victory lane once. Will Guin won Briggs Sportsman 2 Champ. Chris Throckmorton drove to victory in Al's Kart Supply / AKS RaceFab Briggs Medium. Michael Crosby was the winner in RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Briggs Masters. Shay Chavous dominated the Tommy's Karts-n-Parts Unlimited main at Daytona and did the same at Hurricane. Benny Hewitt won the local option ARC Racing International Stock Builder Prepared feature.

Power Products / Super Seat Pole winners were Haws in the three Sportsman 1 classes; Spencer Davis in Sportsman 2 Lite; Will Guin in Sportsman 2 Heavy and 2 Champ; Mishue in Jr Heavy; Cameron Ray in Jr Champ Lite and Heavy; Smith in Briggs Lite; Heavy and Raptor Heavy; A.J. Pace in Briggs Medium and Raptor Lite; Bracken in Super Heavy Clone Pure Stock; Paschal in Masters; Nall in Champ Lite and Heavy; Chavous in Unlimited and Hewitt in Clone Builder Prepared.

The Speedway Dirt Series will return to the track in about two months when the tour heads toward the Atlantic coast for the June 18-20 ITSTV Nationals at North Carolina's Margarettsville Speedway.

Thanks to all racers, teams, officials and fans for making the Dirt Series' Bordeaux Dyno Cams Nationals a successful event at Hurricane Raceway.

2011 TaG engine and engine parts approval process

04.13.2010 - In 2007 WKA joined with other major sanctioning bodies to approve TaG engines for the 2008 to 2010 competition years. The objectives were to bring stability to a popular and rapidly growing class and to maintain parity among the diverse group of TaG engines. Although this has been a challenging task, the success of the TaG classes has shown the approval and handicapping process to be effective.

As a result the major sanctioning bodies are now opening their approval processes for new TaG engines for the 2011 to 2013 race seasons. New parts for existing engines may also be submitted. WKA and the other sanctioning bodies anticipate that the new or revised engines will fall within the performance envelop of the current engines. The sanctioning organizations want to continue their existing programs with a minimum of change to existing engines and approve a very limited number of new engines.

To make the process easier, several of the sanctioning bodies that include a TaG program will be meeting in Bridgeview, Illinois, on Monday, May 3, to examine the engines and parts. In addition to WKA, these organizations include CKI, IKF, and SKUSA. KART and TaG USA have also been invited.

Any manufacturers or authorized importers or distributors who wish to submit an engine or parts for WKA approval should review the 2010 WKA Technical Manual, Section 117 for details. In summary they need to submit a complete engine package including carburetor, air box, header and pipe. A radiator is not necessary.

They should contact WKA Vice President - 2-cycle, Dan Stowell, for shipping instruction and approval fees. Dan can be reached at 203-577-5870 or e-mail dan@worldkarting.com.
