Speedway Dirt gaining momentum in sponsorship, product awards departments
06.10.2010 - The WKA Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series season will resume next weekend with the itsTV.tv Nationals at Margarettsville (N.C.) Speedway. The event marks the series' return to awards in place of cash payouts, and it's also the debut of the series' new one-day Saturday show.
Response to these changes has been positive as WKA continues to work to rebuild the series. If class sponsorship is any indication, the Dirt Series appears to be headed on the right track.
With last week's signing of Maxxis Tires as sponsor of the Briggs Sportsman 2 Heavy division, the series now has 17 of 25 classes sponsored, counting local options.
These sponsors are vital in keeping WKA and the Speedway Dirt Series alive. Racers have always been first rate in supporting the businesses that support their racing, and WKA urges teams to continue to support the people who put money into the series and their name on it.
Here's a rundown of this year's Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series sponsors.
* Al's Kart Supply / AKS RaceFab
* ARC Racing
* Bordeaux Dyno Cams
* Competition Karting Inc.
* Custom Trophy
* E.C. Distributing
* Falcon Racing / Southern Express
* Maxxis Tires
* Power Products / SuperSeat / G-Man
* RLV Tuned Exhaust Products
* Shadow Racing Chassis
* Team Simpson Racing
* Tommy's Karts-n-Parts
* Ultramax Racing Chassis
At Margarettsville, Briggs Medium sponsor Al's Kart Supply / AKS RaceFab, owned by the Harrisburg, Pa., Lyter family, will continue their bodywork set giveaway to a Briggs Medium competitor.
The winner is determined by a random draw, and the bodywork giveaway will continue through the duration of the Speedway Dirt season at Carnesville, Ga., July 31 and the season closer at Dumplin Valley Raceway in Tennessee on Sept. 11.
WKA certainly appreciates Al's Kart Supply's support of the Dirt Series as a sponsor and with family driver Amber Reisinger.

Past WKA racers roll at Martinsville
06.10.2010 - A few WKA racers had terrific weekends at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday when the NASCAR Whelen modifieds and K&N Pro Series stock cars rolled into the scenic hills of southern Virginia.
Former WKA Heartland Dirt Series champion Brett Moffit, 17, won the rain-shortened K&N Pro race. The win marked the young Iowa driver's third in the series, and continued his success as a Joe Gibbs Racing development driver.
One of the racers Moffit won over was 2003 WKA Triple Crown winner Jake Crum, who won last fall's Bailey's 300 late model race at Martinsville. Crum had another good run at the paperclip oval last weekend, albeit not a win. Crum led 16 laps in his second career series start before being caught up in a late-race accident and finishing 13th.
In the 200-lap modified feature, Long Island's Justin Bonsignore, who was winning WKA Vega Speedway Pavement Series features just last season, had his best run of his young asphalt modified career with a fine second-place finish to short-track ace Bobby Santos III.
Bonsignore has been racking up impressive runs on the northern Whelen Modified tour so far this year, but Sunday's runner-up result at Martinsville was by far his best run. Bonsignore is not only finding great success as a rookie driver, but is doing it while racing for a rookie team.
Former WKA national champion Ronnie Silk appeared to have a car to challenge Santos. Silk was in the lead on lap 174 when he pulled off the track under caution and ran out of gas on pit lane.
