Six WKA trustees are suspended

06.23.2010 - WKA President Rick Dresang, acting under the authority granted him in the Association's Code of Regulations, has suspended six members of the WKA Board of Trustees. These trustees are Tony Granata, Don Guilbeault, Robby Harper, Steve Jacobsen, Bobby Moore, and Steve Rumsey. Dresang has taken this action in response to a recent effort of these trustees to remove a fellow trustee from office. These suspensions are supported by the remaining Trustees, the WKA Officers, and the Personnel Committee.

The named individuals were advised repeatedly by President Dresang and WKA Attorney Angelo Buffomante, verbally and in writing, that their move did not conform to the WKA Code of Regulations and was not consistent with Trustees Responsibilities and Guidelines document. (This document includes the Trustee job description and specific rules and procedures that the Trustees agree to follow.) These Trustees were also advised that their action put WKA in severe jeopardy of litigation.

As a result of their suspension, the named individuals no longer qualify to be WKA Trustees. Following are the relevant Code of Regulations provisions that apply:

- Article VII, Section II states that Trustees must be a "member in good standing."

- Article V, Section V states that, to be a member in good standing, an individual cannot be under suspension.

In a letter to the named individuals President Dresang has advised them of their suspensions and their right to appeal to the Board of Trustees.

According to Dresang, "Suspending these Trustees was clearly the most difficult decision I have made in my seven years as a WKA official. However, I believe it is in the best interest of our members, tracks, sponsors and supporters. To fill the open Trustee positions, the remaining Board of Trustees will follow the current precedent by appointing individuals from among the current 2-cycle or 4-cycle Representatives, prior candidates for Trustee or prior Trustees within each district."

WKA will announce the new trustees in seven to ten days.
