Speedway Pavement Series visits new venue this weekend in CMP

06.24.2010 - The Vega Speedway Pavement Series is in action this weekend with the running of the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Nationals at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C.

The track is a tri-oval which is a part of the new sprint track the Russell Karting Gold Cup Series visited in March. It's the first national event on the new oval, although WKA nationals are no stranger to CMP. The Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda has been visiting Kershaw annually for over a decade.

The event is the second race in a row in the Carolinas for the Pavement Series after the opener at OCR (N.C.) Action Sports Park in April. After this weekend, the tour will carry a northern theme with three remaining nationals all north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

The event is also the first two-day show for the Pavement Series. There will be no Friday practice held at Kershaw. Three rounds of group practice and two rounds of practice by class will go off Saturday morning before qualifying begins in the afternoon. A similar schedule, although not as much practice, will run Sunday. Parking is available from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. Friday.

Gates and registration will open Saturday at 7 a.m. with tech opening shortly after. To view the weekend schedule and other important information, go to www.worldkarting.com/downloads/eb-2010/0625_kershaw_pave.pdf .

Five multiple winners at Margarettsville

06.24.2010 - The third race of the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series season went off last weekend at North Carolina's Margarettsville Speedway, a longstanding venue on the Speedway Dirt tour.

The race marked the midpoint of the 2010 Speedway Dirt campaign with nationals at Carnesville, Ga., and Dumplin Valley, Tenn., to follow in July and September.

Four drivers raced to a pair of wins on the Margarettsville dirt, while one driver - Brayton Haws - drove to an unmatched three wins. Haws again swept the Sportsman 1 ranks, winning all three classes for the series' youngest racers for the second weekend in a row. Haws also pulled off the feat at Hurricane in April, and he won two national races at the Vega Speedway Pavement Series national at OCR (N.C.) Action Sports Park in late April.

R.L Anderson won the two races he started, Briggs Sportsman 2 Lite and Heavy. The wins lengthened Anderson's point lead in both divisions.

Trey Mishue was another double junior winner at Margarettsville. Mishue triumphed in Briggs Jr Lite and Briggs Jr Heavy. Austin Berry equaled Mishue's success in Briggs Jr Champ Lite and Heavy, winning both main events.

Chris Beazley made a rare WKA Speedway Dirt appearance at Margarettsville, and the Virginia driver was the only dual senior-class winner. Beazley bested Ryan Byrom in Briggs Medium and Briggs Heavy to take his pair of feature victories.

Racers winning one feature at Margarettsville were Spencer Davis in Briggs Sportsman 2 Champ, Matthew Ridgway in Briggs Champ Lite, Bradley Hauser in Briggs Champ Heavy, Randy Brundage in Briggs Masters, Chris Throckmorton in Briggs Lite, Matt Tanner in Briggs Super Heavy, Tyler Campbell in Briggs Raptor Lite, Troy Tanner in Briggs Raptor Heavy, and David Ferguson in Unlimited 2-Cycle. Jessica Hauser won both Box Stock local options.

Next up for the Speedway Dirt Series is a July 31 stop at Carnesville's Georgia Karting Komplex for the Palmetto Speed Shop Grand Nationals. To view the Carnesville entry blank, go to www.worldkarting.com/downloads/eb-2010/0730_GKK_dirt.pdf .

More outstanding product available at July 4 BeaveRun Gold Cup national

06.24.2010 - After a long break the WKA Russell Karting Gold Cup Series will resume its 2010 season with the running of the Jammer Clutches Nationals July 2-4 at western Pennsylvania's BeaveRun Motorsports Complex.

One of the event highlights will again be the Briggs Animal Heavy Money Race, which is slated to go off Friday evening following the end of practice. As Gold Cup racers and fans know, the Money Race has provided the series with plenty of thrilling moments, tight racing and close finishes since its debut in March 2009 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition to boasting a 75 percent payback off the entry fees, Steve Baker has continued to work hard in securing sponsorship for the race, which generally comes in the form of product or certificates from outfits within the karting industry.

Here's a list of what's currently secured for the BeaveRun Money Race.

∑ Six bottles of Hyper Tech small engine oil additive from Calabrese Motorsports ∑ Two $50 gift certificates from Baker Racing Engines ∑ Two $25 GT Machine gift certificates from Wells Motorsports ∑ One t-shirt and one $50 gift certificate from Coyote Motorsports ∑ Two gift certificates for headers from Robertson Torque Tube ∑ Eight gallons of oil and two t-shirts from Thor Oil ∑ Four $25 gift certificates from American Power Sports ∑ Three t-shirts from Russell Karting

Of course, like all WKA national series the Gold Cup Series can't go on without its loyal sponsors. In 2010, several key karting businesses have stepped up to support the Gold Cup Series with class sponsorships. These sponsors are the following:

∑ American Power Sports ∑ Baker Racing Engines ∑ Bandit Racing Chassis ∑ Beasley Motorsports / Arrow Karts ∑ Coyote Motorsports ∑ Custom Trohpy ∑ Digatron ∑ Dowling Transport & Services ∑ Performance North ∑ Target Distributing ∑ Thor Oil

2010 national race sponsors are Michigan Kart Supply, Jammer Clutches, Coyote Motorsports and GT Machine. Pole awards are sponsored by G-Man Kartworks, SuperSeat and Power Products

Racers have always been first rate in supporting the businesses that support their racing, and WKA urges teams to continue to support the people who put money into the Gold Cup Series and their name on it.

New brake rule for the Road Race Series

06.24.2010 - WKA announces a new brake rule that will require a secondary linkage between the brake pedal and the master cylinders. This rule will be effective November 1, 2010. However, competitors are encouraged to install a system as soon as possible and take it through pre-race tech inspection at the next NRRS event. Here is the rule:

305.1.1 Brake linkage back up and 355.1.1 Brake linkage back up There must be a second link between the brake pedal and the master cylinder that will function in the event that the primary linkage fails. The secondary linkage must not interfere with the operation of the primary linkage or bias bar if so equipped. The secondary linkage may be a second rod or a cable. If a rod is used, it must conform to the specifications of the primary rod. If a cable is used, it must be at least 1/16" in diameter and clamped with a two (2) screw flat plate (CIK Style) clamp or a swag style crimp fitting
