POSITION ONE MOTORSPORTS HAS MORE SUCCESS IN PRO KART CHALLENGE ACTION
"More wins and podiums for the Position One squad"

August 16, 2010 -- Position One Motorsports (POM) was back on the podium again this past weekend at the Pro Kart Challenge North/South event in Santa Maria, California. Looking to continue their winning ways, Bobby Kelley and Nick Johnston were back on top in the TaG division while Devin Sanchez and Skylar Estrada were up front aboard their Maddox chassis.

"We continue to run up front and get results against some of the best drivers in the country," expressed Position One Motorsports Luis Martinez. "The Maddox chassis is performing very well in all track conditions and our drivers are doing an incredible job. The combination of the two makes it very easy when we head to the track."

Nick Johnston and Bobby Kelley would look to continue their winning ways in the TaG Senior division and the duo started out claiming the top two times in qualifying. Johnston took the pole position just nipping Kelley and former Indianapolis 500 Rookie-of-the-Year Phil Giebler. Kelley would get the best of Johnston in the first heat of the day as he managed to maneuver around his teammate and take the victory, but Kelley would be back on top in heat two. The pair of drivers would battle hard throughout the heats to garner enough points to try and score the main event pole position.

With a few false starts and some over aggressive efforts by some competitors, the inside front row starter would be put back to the third position giving Johnston the point as he would lead the large field to the green flag. While the pole position did not give Johnston the lead early, it did put him in good position as he exited the first corner in P2 right ahead of teammate Kelley. The duo worked together to chase down the leader with Kelley eventually getting past Johnston for the second position. Kelley would not be done there as he took the lead in the closing stages of the race and went on to take the win as Nick Johnston would come home in the third position. With the win, Kelley is the Pro Kart Challenge North point leader in the TaG Senior division.

While Position One Motorsports driver Devin Sanchez was the lone entry in the TaG Junior class, he continues to show constant improvement with the full size chassis and higher speeds. A mishap on Friday during the official practice session forced Sanchez to make the switch from the Avanti to the Maddox chassis. With a steep learning curve, Sanchez improved his times each and every session. After qualifying fourth, Sanchez went on to claim fourth and fifth place results in the heat races before taking a solid fourth place finish in the main event. With another top five result, Sanchez joins Bobby Kelley as the point leader in the Pro Kart Challenge North program in his respective division.

Position One Motorsports Skylar Estrada competed in the Mini ROK class aboard a P1 Engines powered Maddox chassis, the debut for Maddox in this division. Qualifying in the fifth position, Estrada improved in the heat races with solid second and fourth place results. Looking to fight for the win in the main event, Estrada would battle with the leaders and run third until a mechanical failure forced him to retire from the race.

"We have a few weeks off before our next event," explained Position One Motorsports Team Manager Colin McGinnis. "We are going to take this time to head back to the shop and prepare. We are also looking at a few test sessions to ensure our equipment is ready and our drivers remain sharp."

The next event for the Position One Motorsports squad is the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Kart Challenge North event on the September 3rd -- 4th weekend. Position One Motorsports is also starting to plan for this year's SKUSA SuperNationals and is offering arrive and drive opportunities in TaG Senior, TaG Junior, TaG Masters and TaG Cadet.
