"FirstKart.com scores three victories at Barrie Grand Prix"
Brownsburg, Indiana. -- June 27, 2006 -- The FirstKart.com race team scored three victories this past weekend at the third round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) Barrie Grand Prix. Scoring victories were junior drivers Kevin Montieth and Brett Smrz while senior competitor Eric Gerrits claimed the top step of the podium.
Looking to go three for three in SRFKC competition, Montieth would do battle with a tough field of Junior Heavy competitors. Working with a fellow driver, the duo was able to hook up and draft away from the rest of the field and begin the battle for victory. As the remainder of the field closed on the leaders, Montieth was able to hold his fellow competitors at bay and claim his first Barrie Grand Prix crown.
FirstKart.com's second victory of the weekend came from defending Rotax Senior Canadian National Champion Eric Gerrits. Gerrits battled hard all weekend long and never finished a timed session outside the top three but was only able to bring his First Kart machine home in P2. After post racing technical inspection Gerrits was deemed the winner and scored his first career SRFKC victory.
Winning the award for the furthest traveling competitor was Idaho's Brett Smrz as he was the only American to compete in this year's event. Smrz didn't disappoint his FirstKart.com team as he swept the Rotax junior class as he qualified on pole, won the pre-final and took the checkers in the final.
"What a great weekend of racing" expressed First Kart President Tony Ventresca. "The weather was awesome, the racing was great and all of our guys did a fantastic job. Most of us will now enjoy a weekend off before heading to Charlotte, North Carolina for the third round of the Stars of Karting East Championship."
