"One pole and two top ten results for rising star"
July 31, 2007 -- Junior karting pilot Bryson Schutte continues to turn heads in the Ontario karting community as he maintains his fight for victories in both of Ontario's regional karting championships.
Competing in both the F1-K Cadet 60cc and Honda 4-cycle Junior Lite divisions at the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship, Schutte managed to garner one pole position and two top ten results after some tough luck took him out of contention for the victory late in the race.
In Saturday's F1-K Cadet event, Bryson qualified inside row number two and had a great starting position for the prefinal. Looking to make his moves early, Bryson capitalized on his starting position to move into P2 where he would finish and eventually line up for the final. Starting on the outside at Mosport is tough but Bryson was looking forward to the challenge. Looking to get a jump on the pole sitter, Bryson went wheel-to-wheel into turn one but was quickly relegated down the running order and came out of the first series of turns in the sixth position. Battling hard with the lead pack, Bryson was able to advance forward and finish in the fifth.
Looking for a little redemption from Saturday, Bryson went out and circuited the Mosport International Karting Complex quicker than any other Junior Lite driver to claim the pole position and a solid inside front row starting position for Sunday's prefinal. Schutte paced the field early in the six lap prefinal before being shoved wide into the grass at the halfway point and dropped down to the 12th position eventually finishing up in tenth.
Another outside starting position hurt Schutte at the start of the final but he managed to get through the melee and begin his march forward. With an impressive display of driving and some grit and determination, Schutte moved into the top five with two laps remaining. Looking for a podium position and pushing hard, Bryson made a small mistake and as the checkers flew he would cross the strip in seventh.
With no time off, Bryson Schutte and family will head to Shannonville, Ontario for the next round in the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship held from August 1st -- 5th. After only competing in two of the first three events, Schutte currently sits fifth in the overall standings for the Junior Lite division and will look for a strong result this coming weekend to make a run at the overall series title.
