True 'young guns' rule opening weekend at Goodwood

GOODWOOD, ONTARIO The fourth season of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels provided all on hand with an incredible show of two days of wheel-to-wheel racing. "I think, at least from my vantage point, and particularly from the guests we had here from Sunoco and GM Canada, as well as surprise guest Bill Brack, and also Jim Downing, the founder and designer of the hans device, he was here watching, it was just some of the best racing I've seen," said Ron Fellows. "I'm just proud of the effort that everyone put in. The kind of quality racing we are seeing now is... just spectacular."

The 'young guns' of the sport made their presence felt as two class winners were the youngest drivers in their class. On Saturday, Reid Racing's Reid Arnold took the victory in his first SRFKC race, in Canada Junior Light at nine years old. On Sunday, multi-time junior class champion, 15-year-old First Kart driver Daniel Morad scored his first ever Senior class win in his first Senior SRFKC start, in the headline Formula Senior class. Morad also took home the Sunday GM Winners circle award for 'outstanding competition skills and sportsmanship'.

Other Saturday winners included Cameron Motorsports' Maxime Pelletier in Formula Junior and Mike Vincec in Rotax Max Junior. Team Hurricane's Joshua Korenyl won World Formula Junior and Gold Kart's Darryl Timmers, who won Canada Senior, and he collected Saturday's GM Racing award.

Other Sunday winners were Gold Kart's Justin Holtom in Canada Junior Heavy, CMP's Adriano Bilotta in World Formula, and CRG's Marco Di Leo in Rotax Max Senior.

The Pratt & Miller Team Spirit award went to Cameron Motorsports for exhibiting the highest levels of teamwork in the areas of presentation, preparation and results.

The biggest winners were the fans and supporters that showed up at Goodwood to catch the opening round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels. The new, longer finals, and presentation of the classes were a huge hit for the series, and couple that with new race winners, and all is set for 2005 to be the best year yet for the series. The stars of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels are now off for two weeks before heading to 3-S Go Karts in Sutton, Ontario for round 2.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
