Triple crown night Doe Run Raceway report

DOE RUN, Mo. -- (Sept. 7, 2001) It was a triple crown night at the Doe Run Raceway Friday (a driver winning his heat race, trophy dash and feature) with three of the four classes.

In the Mini Stock class, Carl Bellew of Farmington picked up his first triple crown of the season after holding off a host of challengers in the feature. For a large portion of the feature, Bellew, Tom Bequette, Marty Boyer, and Jathon Cruse battled in and out of traffic for the top spot. Dustin Winich and Bruce Boren were also top contenders for the first place prize. Bellew made the most of his pole position and he made it stand up, holding off Bruce Boren in the end for the victory. In what was probably the most exciting race of the season in the class, Boyer finished third, Terry Harris fourth and Keith Buckley fifth. They were followed by Chris Harbison, Chuck White, Joe Peterson, Rick Ruch and Mike LaBrot. Bequette finished 13th after he was involved in an accident with Cruse shortly after the white flag came out. Cruse finished 14th.

Bellew won the first heat with Boyer second and Peterson third. Bequette won the second heat with Ruch second and Winich third. Bellew won the trophy dash with Boyer second and Bequette third.

In the Multi class, It appeared Brett Anderson was headed for a triple crown, however mechanical problems knocked him out of the race while he was leading midway through the feature. Dustin Barks of Farmington then assumed control of the race and he went on to pick up the victory. Derek O'Dell finished second with Tyler Richardson third, Tyler Robbins fourth and Daniel Adler fifth. They were followed by John "Wallbanger" Dennis, Tom Harris, Matt Dotson, Kent Buckley and Todd Mecey.

Anderson won the first heat with O'Dell second and Richardson third. Eric Giessing won the second heat with Buckley second and Dotson third. Dennis won the third heat with Barks second and Harris third. Anderson won the trophy dash with Barks second and Giessing third. Robbins won the "B" main with Matt "Catfish" Ponder second.

In the Super Stock Kart class, Sam Miller of Farmington earned a triple crown. In the feature Miller was the winner with Jimmy Bridgeman second, Joey Boyd third, Kyle Jarrett fourth, Billy Beard fifth and John Leahy sixth. Miller won the trophy dash with Bridgeman second and Jarrett third. Miller won the heat with Bridgeman second and Beard third.

Michael Harp of Farmington was a triple crown winner in the Stock Kart class. Harp picked up the win in the feature with Bradley Paquet second, Billy Beard third, Jordan Turner fourth, Kyle Haywood fifth, Bobby Ridings sixth, and Joey Boyd seventh. Harp won the heat with Haywood second and Turner third. Harp won the trophy dash with Paquet second and Haywood third. Racing action continues at the Doe Run Raceway this Friday night when the gates open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8.
