Road Racers Conquer CMP

03.26.2009 - Following a two-month break after Daytona, WKA Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda participants resumed their championship quest as they eagerly awaited the 5pm opening of the gates at Kershaw, SC's Carolina Motorsports Park on Thursday, March 19th in hopes of conquering its twists and turns and taking home a First Place trophy.

Despite a smaller attendance than in past years and chilly starts each morning, the Karolina Karter's hosted event ran flawlessly and offered up some really exciting multi-kart battles. Twelve driver's skill and hard work resulted in a pair of trophy bookends at the conclusion of the event while another dozen earned single victories, but West Virginia's Scott Clark earned three! Clark, a regular in the WKA sprint classes earned victories in the WKA Sprint 1 & 2 classes and tried his luck in a laydown, which resulted in a win in 100cc Pipe Medium. Special thanks to Johnny Jacumin and the Karolina Karters for a great weekend of racing and fellowship.

The class winner questionnaires were not available at the event. If you would like to submit a form, contact Mike Traylor at the WKA Office.

Next up for the Road Racers is one more stop in the South at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, GA. The Southern Kart Club will host the event on the weekend of May 8 -- 10, 2009. The series will then shift north for the Dart Kart Club hosted Grand Nationals at Mid Ohio June 12 -- 14th and the ZoomZoom SuperNationals at Road America the weekend of July 10 -- 12th. The series will then zig-zag across the US with stops at VIR and Putnam Park in August, New Jersey Motorsports Park in September and the season finale at Road Atlanta in October. We hope to see you along the way!

WKA Trustee Election Results

03.26.2009 -- WKA's Trustee election in Districts 1, 4, 7 and 10 has ended and the Association's CPA firm, Russell & Byrd, has counted the ballots and reported the results. In District 4 WKA members have elected Bobby Moore as their Trustee; two experienced volunteers will assist Bobby. His 4-cycle Representative will be past District 4 Trustee Jimmy Rivers. National Road Race Committee member, Jim Fry, will serve as his 2-cycle Rep.

WKA District 7 members have selected Tony Granata from a full field of candidates. Supporting Tony is Rob Smith as 4-cycle Representative and Jim Perry as 2-cycle Rep. This is Perry's second term as the district's 2-cycle Representative. Smith is currently a member of the Gold Cup Competition Committee.

In District 10, Kevin Williams has been re-elected to his second term as Trustee. Steve Nieto will continue to serve Williams as his 4-cycle Rep. Based on his own extensive 2-cycle experience; Williams will also fill the role of 2-cycle Rep in District 10. Due to the small number of members in District 1 and the lack of a candidate, the Board of Trustees has voted to merge Districts 1 & 10. Kevin Williams will represent the combined districts.

The new Trustees will attend an orientation session on April 17 in preparation for their first Board meeting on April 17 & 18. At this session they will be introduced to the office staff and learn their functions. The will also study the WKA Code of Regulations and learn their own responsibilities and the guidelines under which they operate. They will also be introduced to WKA's committee system and their rule in reviewing and approving changes to the WKA Technical Manual.
