New Castle Manufacturer's Cup penalties being reviewed

09.02.2009 -- Before the dust had settled on the Show Hauler Trucks Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park for the George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda, World Karting officials were already reviewing the penalties assessed over the weekend.

With the multitude of rough driving incidents that took place, many of the incidents may indeed be headed to higher ground for review by the WKA Board of Trustees, with the possibility of strong disciplinary action following as a result of these incidents.

In the meantime, in preparation for the season finale, the SSC East / CRG Grand Nationals at Lowe's Motor Speedway Nov. 6-8 in Concord, North Carolina, WKA will be bringing in additional qualified personnel in an attempt to curtail the rough driving actions, as drivers not only run for the coveted Grand National Eagle, accompanied by Bonus Points, but lay claim to the 2009 championships in their respective classes.

Speedway Dirt to close season Sept. 11-13 at Hurricane

09.02.2009 -- With Labor Day weekend off for all WKA national series, the next event on the schedule is the Shadow Racing Chassis Nationals for the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series Sept. 11-13 at Alma, Georgia's Hurricane Raceway.

One of the highlights of the 2009 Speedway Dirt season has been the Saturday night Briggs & Stratton Racing / Ultramax Racing Chassis / Firestone Animal Heavy Money Race, which has seen four different winners in four races this year -- Dan Sox (Margarettsville), Chris Thompson (Dexter), Tod Miller (Liberty) and Brett Miller (Hanging Rock). Many of the Southeast's top dirt racers will be attempting to make it five different winners in five races, while Sox, Thompson, T. Miller and B. Miller, if in attendance, each will be trying to become the only two-time winner of the prestigious event.

Whoever crosses the finish line first next Saturday night will net a fine $1,700 prize. Racers running Vega or Firestone rubber also will be eligible for a $500 bonus from the two respected tire manufacturers. Firestone's bonus is good for the first driver to cross the finish line in their rubber while Vega's bonus is good only if the winner is on Vega tires. In addition to the Money Race, any national-class feature winner running Vega tires will earn a $50 gift certificate to TS Racing, based in Bushnell, Fla., and online at www.TSRacing.com.

Sunday will again feature the "Sunday 6" Money classes, a program that awards a generous $250 to the winner of Briggs Sportsman 1 Heavy, Sportsman 2 Heavy, Jr Heavy, Briggs Medium, Super Heavy and Champ Heavy.

Four local-option classes will run, comprising Briggs Lite Flathead and Briggs Medium Flathead Saturday and Briggs Medium Flathead and Briggs Heavy Flathead Sunday. The local options will run following the national classes and before the Animal Heavy Money Race Saturday night.

While it's difficult to believe the season is nearly over, there is certainly some unfinished business for the dirt racers of WKA. National championships are on the line for the 21 national classes, and racers will be looking to go into the early winter months with momentum for the 2010 season.
