Road Racing Series back in action Sept. 25-27 at New Jersey

09.17.2009 -- The Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda will hit the track for the first time in over a month next weekend, Sept. 25-27, at the New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville. The Road Race Nationals, hosted by the Woodbridge Kart Club (WKC), is the eighth stop on the nine-race tour and marks the only time this season the series will visit the Northeast region.

Next weekend's three-day affair for the country's best karting road racers also marks the inaugural national event at NJMP and the first time karts will race on the facility's touted Thunderbolt Raceway. WKC has competed at New Jersey's Lightning Raceway in recent years but never at Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt course is over 2.25 miles in length featuring 14 corners, a half-mile straightaway and around 40 acres of paddock space.

NJMP is a new facility still in its opening years of operation. Top American and international road racers have said the Thunderbolt and Lightning raceways are world-class caliber circuits. Woodbridge karters have raved about the Lightning course since the club began holding events there in 2008. The operators of NJMP are still in the stages of building a multitude of additions to the 700-acre facility, including restaurants, hotels, trackside villas and additional garages. The Road Race Nationals will kick off Friday with a full day of practice followed by two local-option races at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will see 15 race groups comprising 59 national and WKC local-option classes. WKC will be holding a Saturday night social which will feature a Bar-B-Q dinner with fixings for only $10.

A reminder to all minors and their families planning on participating next weekend: All participating minors must present a birth certificate and summary of racing experience to the track prior to racing. The summary should include a brief report of the track name, season's races and classes raced. This information is due to the track by Sept. 23 and should be mailed to New Jersey Motorsports Park c/o Joe Volpe; 47 Warbird Drive; Millville, NJ 08332. 2010 Road Racing safety requirement announcement

09.17.2009 -- Summer is complete but there are still two big WKA Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda events left on the 2009 schedule. But that doesn't mean road racers shouldn't be thinking about the 2010 campaign, which will kick off at Daytona International Speedway Dec. 28-30, less than two months after this season's conclusion at Road Atlanta Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

One rule change of which racers of the Road Racing Series should be aware is that beginning 2010, all drivers must wear either a full one-piece driving suit or a two-piece suit that connects at the waist by a zipper. These forms of driving suits will be required, effective the Daytona Road Racing Championships.

There has been a note of this rule change in the 2008 and 2009 WKA Technical Manuals. The note in bold lettering can be found on page TM 8 in the 2009 manual.

K&N, Sunoco increase free spots to 6 in driver talent search; one spot exclusively for WKA kart racer

09.17.2009 (SACRAMENTO, Calif.) -- K&N Filters and Sunoco Racing Fuels have increased their sponsorship to award six free spots in the 2009 Talent Search Shoot-Out conducted by Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle (RSWC).

The Shoot-Out process is designed to identify talented, young, up and coming drivers from across the United States and Canada with the talent, potential and commitment to achieve a driving career in NASCAR. The application process is open to all drivers 11 to 19 years of age, with race winning backgrounds. K&N Filters and Sunoco Racing Fuels are awarding one position in the 2009 Shoot-Out exclusively to a young racer with a WKA Kart racing background.

RSWC is currently accepting resumes through September 30th, 2009. The Shoot-Out is conducted in early October, in three types of racecars, on a California paved short oval track.

Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle (RSWC) is an established talent scout and development program for up and coming drivers focused on NASCAR careers. RSWC drivers are raced, coached, groomed, trained and molded, within a professional racing environment, into what top teams look for when hiring drivers.

RSWC has developed many young Kart racers to successfully make the transition from Kart racing to winning races in USAC and NASCAR pavement oval track series, including Jessica Brunelli, Beau DeBard, Bobby Grewohl, Ian Miille, Benny Moon, Jimmy Moon, Brennan Newberry, Thomas Merrill and WKA Champion Jeff Oleen.
