WKA announces several 2010 venues, date changes

10.30.2009 -- With the final few events still to be run for 2009, World Karting officials have been working diligently to secure dates and venues for the fast approaching 2010 racing season.

With so many facilities intertwined with several of the series of racing, combined with school schedules, geographic locations of competitors and tracks, the decisions are getting tougher each year. As a result of these challenges, two series have date changes.

The season opener for the Bully Clutches Gold Cup Series will take place at the brand-new sprint track at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. Recognized for years as one of the top southern venues for the Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda, the two series will now take part in a doubleheader the weekend of March 12-14. The date was originally scheduled for two weeks later in the month, however, an unfortunate scheduling conflict with another racing series led to the change. Other changes to the Gold Cup schedule include a Fourth of July weekend stop at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex in Pennsylvania with the August date featuring the return of the doubleheader weekend at New Castle (Ind.) Motorsports Park with the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series and the series finale at the legendary G & J Kartway in Ohio in October.

While preparations are being made for the latest edition of Daytona KartWeek, including a brand-new dirt track, the balance of the dirt schedule and venues are currently being worked on. Included in that is a date change for the third dirt series event. Originally scheduled for June 4-6, the series new date will be June 18-20 at a yet to be finalized location. The remaining dirt venues will be announced shortly.

Other highlights on the 2010 schedule include the Manufacturer's Cup Series first ever visit to New Jersey Motorsports Park for the fifth and final race of the season, adding another doubleheader with the Road Racing Series. Other venues include Daytona, MRP of South Bend and New Castle Motorsports Park with the July venue being finalized.

The Speedway Pavement Series will christen their new season in April at OCR Action Sports Park in North Carolina. This marks the second consecutive year the Pavement Series will open at OCR. Stops for next year also include the July race at New York's Chapel Hill Raceway and an August stop at New Castle. A June date will be replacing the October venue with the series finale coming in September. Venues for those two dates will be announced shortly.

The 2010 tentative schedule now includes these races along with interactive Google maps to each track. To view the updated schedule schedule, visit www.WorldKarting.com.
